Just got an email from AngieH saying she's chosen me for Minti Featured Member. I feel extremely honoured! But now I have to answer a whole swag of deep, searching, personal questions! LOL! Here we go:
- Starting with name, location (dont be too specific), how many children (and ages).
My name is Leith and I live on the eastern side of Australia (but not on the coast). I have two beautiful girls who are just turned 5 and 3 and a half (17 months between them).
- How did you find Minti?
I was intending to enter this competition to win a Roomba vacuum, and I had to get involved in this parenting site in order to do so (LOL!). As it turns out, I think I got a whole lot more out of it than if I had just won a vacuum.
- What's your favorite thing or feature at Minti?
The people. I've just met so many incredible people through this site some of who have become my very best friends.
- What's your favorite thing about being a parent?
Probably when my kids tell me they love me.
- What has been your biggest parenting challenge?
Living down all the parenting stereotypes there are about how you should raise your kids or act as a person if you're a parent.
- What worries you most about parenting ? (education, health, mental development, physical development, teaching manners, etc )
Keeping my kids emotional healthy and having the tools to deal with life - or better yet, not get that screwed up to start with.
- What's the best parenting advice you've ever gotten from someone?
Hmm... Probably trust your own intuition.
- What were your babies first words?
My eldest said "Mum" so that was enough for me!
- What is your favorite song?
Total Eclipse of the Heart as sung by Bonnie Tyler
- What is the funniest thing you or your child or significant other has done or said?
There's always new ones! But the most recent funny was when it was my eldest daughter's birthday recently and the night before her birthday I took the youngest into my bedroom to secretly wrap birthday presents. One of her presents was an umbrella and I stressed the idea that this was a secret and not to tell my eldest. As soon as we finished wrapping, my youngest ran up to my eldest and said "I've got a secret! You're getting an umbrella!" It's a little hard to recover the surprise after that!!
- Using just one word sum up Minti.
Complex
- What is the best piece of advice you have got from Minti?
I can't think of just one piece of advice! I think it's less the advice and just the affirmation from other parents that I'm a good parent. That's worth more than all the advice in the world to me.
- How do you deal with your Minti addiction?
My computer is a laptop and it is usually located in the kitchen overlooking the loungeroom where the kids play. It means I can multitask and do many things at once! Make dinner, talk to kids and type away on Minti! Mind you, I save the stuff that requires real brain power (like writing articles) until either the kids are in bed or I do it on the week that the kids go to their Dad's.
- How does your family deal with your Minti addiction?
See above - they don't seem to really worry! But if they ever complain I'm not listening to them or something similar, I take that as my signal to stop doing more than one thing at once and I try and sit down and give them more focussed attention.
