Well, we've done quite a bit of planning of late. Took my bridesmaids out to the shops a few weeks ago and tried on dresses. I think I've settled on the idea of them wearing purple - one in a deep, bright purple ("Passion") and the other in a lighter purple ("Iris"). Then my two girls I am thinking of my eldest in the darker purple and ivory, and my youngest in the lighter purple and ivory. The ivory is to tie in with my dress. I think that could work really well.
I've also booked the DJ who is this really lovely woman who also sings. She also offers karaoke which I think would be great fun - and with quite a few singing type people coming to the wedding I think would be a good draw. But BF is dead against it. He's said that I could do karaoke if I wanted, but noone else could. But as far as I'm concerned, that's half the fun - people singing badly (or even the odd one who can sing well!) and just having an awesome time altogether. And picking on people if they really are hideously awful. LOL!
I ordered the invites the other day. Managed to get them on sale, so that was great. I need to talk to BF's family now to bed down the invite list, cause I think they have some family they're wanting to invite. I told his mum they can invite as many people they want as long as they're willing to pay for them, as our budget is fairly strict. So I'll have to sort that out with her.
Also been looking for the car. I really, really, really want to get a stretch limo that's large enough to fit our 9 member wedding party (Me & BF, my 2 kids, my 2 bridesmaids and BF's 3 groomsmen). There doesn't seem to be anything that big in the town I live in, but I can get a reasonably priced one from Sydney. So I think we're going to go ahead with that too.
It's all coming together really well! I need to work out the flowers, the cake (which I currently need ideas on as I'm quite devoid of any) and just bed down some of the other details. But I have ideas for just about everything else, even if I haven't ordered it yet. |

Re: Wedding Update
I love the idea of purple for the bridesmaids - beautiful!
In case you've got nowhere with the cake, this is what I did: I got my friend who's a good water-colour artist to do a painting of a silhouette of a tree and hedge in winter against a sunset-coloured sky (Autumn wedding, love sunsets). Then the cake decorator took it and copied it onto each of the cakes four times, then did a little arrangement of icing autumnal leaves, berries & nuts for the top of each cake. I'll try to scan a picture into the computer sometime, in case you're interested? Like you, we were unsure about fruitcake, as DH wont eat it, so we did the bottom layer in fruitcake, middle in madeira cake (one of DHs favourites) and top in "Grandma Chocolate Chip Cake" (Grandma's secret recipe - she always packed DH off to college with one - his favourite). We had to use a S stand as the top two cakes werent strong enough to bear any weight of the one above. DH said he didnt mind what the cake looked like, as long as Postman Pat was behind the hedge (he's a big kid), with a wink! We said "no way!" but my MIL & I schemed and he got his very own wedding cake in the shape of Postman Pat, Jess and the van in the middle of the speeches - very funny!
Hope that inspires you, if you still need it?
