Indospanglish

So little bit seemed to be a bit behind developmentally with his language skills. His vocabulary consisted of "banana" "baba" "mama" and "da". But I began to notice a lot of his little baby sounds sounded a lot like Indonesian words: "apa" "bapak" "mau", so I began speaking to him this weekend primarily in Indonesian. OMG! His language has taken off! Now he tells me when he wants something, what he wants, calls to us, names things in books. . . unbelievable. Granted, his language is kind of a mix of Indonesian, Spanish and English, and often his words are jumbles of the three, but he is communicating where he couldn't really less than a week ago. I am thoroughly amazed.

What a difference a week makes, how clever is that three languages in one. They say young ones pick up different languages a lot easier than we oldies.

Ahh, look at that little face!  He's so cute!  Kiddies are so darn clever, they just totally amaze me all the time!  I just love watching them, that is true joy to see them discover and delight in things!  Your little dude will be so ahead with the chance to learn three languages.  He will just pick it up and have that with him in his life!  Talk about enrichment!!!

That isn't entirely unusual for kids to pick up one language better than another. English has been considered one of the hardest languages to learn for a very long time. Whatever your child can learn to use to communicate is a good thing, embrace it and run with it while you can.
