college scholarship site

by lindterbeanComment Published at 19:2919:290 comments0 comments210 Visits210 VisitsReport

A great starter scholarship site. You can register your kids as young as 14 and they become eligible for some scholarships as early as 8th grade. This site will weed out the scholarships that your child is eligible for based on the criteria you enter, then remind you of deadlines. Not comprehensive, but a good start.

sunburn relief

This stuff is amazing, concentrate of vitamin E and aloe. It's not so much that it helps the burn feel better, but after a day the burn was gone!
Noxema feels great though and helps keep skin from peeling.

movie reviews for families

by lindterbeanComment Published at 09:0409:040 comments0 comments174 Visits174 VisitsReport

This website is great for letting you know what you're going to encounter before you see a movie. In case of any objectionable material, it details exactly what uses of language, violence, sexuality, drug use, anything that may raise flags. It's very specific and gives you the opportunity to make a more educated choice when it comes to what you let your kids watch.

Some movies are free, latest movies are available with a subscription.

Educational DVDs

This company does a great job with various educational videos and DVD's, supporting ages from early childhood up and subjects from phonics to math to foreign languages. The kids seem to enjoy them too. Available through http://www.amazon.com or directly through http://www.rocknlearn.com/index.htm

Co-sleeper baby bassinet

by lindterbeanComment Published at 07:3607:360 comments0 comments281 Visits281 VisitsReport

Arms Reach makes a bedside bassinet for Moms who may want to co-sleep but who are concerned about rolling. Link follows although it is available many places. I personally feel as much contact as you can safely have with your baby the better.

Neopets website

by lindterbeanComment Published at 07:3007:300 comments0 comments135 Visits135 VisitsReport

A great site for kids on the web is www.neopets.com You've probably heard of it, but some things I didn't realize are that if the kids are under 13, they do not have the ability to contact other members at all unless you send in a written form giving them permission. Same works the other way round. There is also an interface for younger kids (Neopets Jr.) that comes up automatically if they are under a certain age (not sure what that is). The site is monitored by its members and if you are still concerned, members do not need to register with their real names or information. Our kids have been on it for years (although one is tired of it by now), under aliases they made up, and I have an account also so I can participate in the games with them and check up on them occasionally.

Faces magazine for kids aged 8 or so

by lindterbeanComment Published at 07:2607:260 comments0 comments202 Visits202 VisitsReport

For those interested in multiculturalism, we have had a subscription to Faces, a mag for kids that showcases a different country/area each issue. They will highlight one child and how they live then expound on this with articles and activities about that situation. A couple of months ago it was about a young girl in Israel, and the life of her family. The only drawbacks are it only comes every two months (an eternity in kid-time!) and there is more to read than do, so it might be boring for very young kids or kids who don't like reading. But the articles are very well written, so it is enjoyable for adults as well.
