I Went To The Police...

Comment Published at 23:0123:0117 comments17 comments46 Visits46 VisitsReport

I went to the police to report the incident from my previous Blog...I was a little leery due to the fact that I didn't have a license plate number. My son and I went in and I started to tell one officer...but he looked disinterested and kept looking at the clock over my head. I was halfway through my story (which I don't think he even heard)...when all of a sudden he said, "My shifts over, please have a seat and someone will be down in a minute to hear your story." At this point I'm feeling a little stupid, but I'm determined to have someone listen...hoping to save a child from a possible kidnap attempt.

The next guy starts listening to my story and then proceeds to start looking directly behind me...I turned around to see if the clock was mesmerizing him too. A guy with long, bushy black hair, was walking toward the bathroom. Knowing that he wasn't listening, I just stopped and said, "Do you need to go check out the situation or something?" He goes, "Uh no, go ahead." As I tried to get the point across that the men were targeting my son...he kept trying to make it about me. He said,"You need to make sure you carry your cell phone, don't jog alone, be aware of your surroundings, and get a license plate number." I said, "I know all of that, but they weren't after me, they were after my son and I'm worried that they might try to take other children."

He said, "Give me a description of the cars and when I'm out on the streets tonight I will be on the lookout." I told him, "It was two Hispanic men, one in his late 40's to early 50's the other was younger in his 20's or 30's. The older man was driving a light metallic gold Honda accord, a late 90's model. The younger guy was in a white old Chevy van with different color stripes on it." He said, "Okay, thanks, and what's your name?" I told him and left...he never wrote anything down or took a report.

I felt pretty frustrated as I left, he just didn't seem to get the fact that they were targeting my son and not me. On a positive note...I've eased my conscious and at least tried to get a warning out to the community.

Re: I Went To The Police...

Dear Lisa, so sorry that i have not been around....it  saddens me immensely reading what has been happening and scary also. I think your local police should take a long hard look at how they protect the public. Have no other suggestions for you, other than what has already been suggested and knowing you, you would be doing everything within your power to bring awareness to others, of the possible danger out there, especially to our young or anyone, for that matter.

If something happened to a child ( god forebid)....i'm certain  the police wouldn't be worrying about what time the clock says, that's for sure.....you would think they would want to prevent this from happening, instead of waiting til something does happen.

So glad that you were with your son on the day....take care my friend.

Love Janice

P.S. Took a look at your other blog, what beautiful writing's and  stunning photo's...you are one very clever special lafy and friend

.

That is really annoying.  If something happens to someone elses child because they didn't listen it would be horrible.  You did the right thing.  I agree with going to the paper - anything to deter them.

I'd go to the local paper. I'm sure they would be interested and this way more people could be made aware to look out for their kids in the area.

Re: I Went To The Police...

you did the right thing and reported it.........maybe write it down on paper, sign it and then hand it in to the police station with a cc to your local politician............

Re: I Went To The Police...

Thanks that's a good idea...I just had a visual of them laughing as I walked out the door and making a paper airplane with my letter...that seemed to be the demeanor of the men!

Re: I Went To The Police...

Thats crazy

Like others are saying I would take it further see a higher ranked officer or even email your disappointment in how it was handled

There may be another mum who one day won't be so fortunate as you and you would really suffer with your conscience then

Re: I Went To The Police...

I've been getting the word out to everyone I know and they have told parents so hopefully through word of mouth we can protect our children...since we aren't getting help from the police.

Demand to see a female officer!  They usually listen to you and are more sympathetic.  Also, let the local media know what has been going on.  Having the situation made aware by radio, newspaper and possibly television might make others aware of what is going on, and possibly deter the men.

Sweetie, that is really scary.  I'm frightened for what you have been through.  I just hope the men give up!

Re: I Went To The Police...

I guess some other thirteen year old boys were approached and offered money to get in their car...don't know if they took that serious or not?!?

I would ring them and ask for an officer in charge. Then explain what happened and make sure that something is getting done. That is just too much like inefficiency to me.

Re: I Went To The Police...

No wonder your frustrated.  I wonder if they do this to everything they hear.  That was pretty damn rude of him and to not even take a report.  Too much paper work probably.  Hope he has a good Memory.

As for the guy whos shift had finished.....  don't get me started...

You did the right thing by going to the police, good on you.

Re: I Went To The Police...

I KNOW Angie...the worst part about it is that it made me feel stupid, lucky I get mad when someone makes me feel dumb, so I just kept going on about my story.  No wonder people never report anything!
