My Son Got a DUI!

by LisaPetrarcaComment Published at 16:4016:4024 comments24 comments86 Visits86 VisitsReport

Well I have been praying for something to happen to help my son Josh, who has been drinking and taking prescription drugs.  I just found out that he was arrested on Friday night (DUI) and spent the night in jail.  He will now have a long road in front of him, but I felt like it was an answer to my prayers.  I could never imagine a few months ago actually being happy that my son would get a DUI, but considering the alternative (death or killing someone else), it is the best thing that could have happened to him.  It will be a HUGE wake up call!  Hopefully this will stop him and he will learn his lesson at the age of 19 instead of going through years of suffering before waking up.  Please keep praying as he will definitely need it!

Here is a picture of me and my son just last year at Prom, what a difference a few months can make in someone's life through wrong choices.

My Son Needs Help!

by LisaPetrarcaComment Published at 13:5913:5918 comments18 comments118 Visits118 VisitsReport

I have been having a really hard time with my oldest son lately.  He has become really rebellious and disrespectful.  It isn't like him to be so mean and angry.  He moved in with his father a while ago and now that hasn't worked out so he went to stay with his cousin...another bad move.  We found out last night that they have been taking all kinds of prescription drugs and my sister couldn't even wake them up.  I'm so scared, my son has never been into drugs and rarely even drank.

It's strange how you can get them through high school and then when they are supposed to be responsible, they become worse.  Well I spent my night crying because he had taken off pretty messed up because my sister tried to give them a drug test...I was afraid he would be killed or kill someone.  He wont answer my calls...he doesn't want me telling him what to do or reprimanding him.  I had my middle son call him and he answered his call but told him to stay the #*#* out of his life (obviously the drugs talking).

So I am at my wits end!  You never stop trying to take care of your children even when they are adults .  I have just been praying, which is helping me make it through, but I just needed to vent...thanks for listening.

This Will Give You Chills

by LisaPetrarcaComment Published at 12:5112:5113 comments13 comments56 Visits56 VisitsReport

Someone emailed this to me and I wanted to share it with you guys. Unfortunately there was not any information as to who the author is, but I'm sure it will leave you speechless....

AFTER A FEW OF THE USUAL SUNDAY EVENING HYMNS,THE CHURCH'S PASTOR SLOWLY STOOD UP, WALKED OVER TO THE PULPIT AND, BEFORE HE GAVE HIS SERMON FOR THE EVENING, HE BRIEFLY INTRODUCED A GUEST MINISTER WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE THAT EVENING. IN THE INTRODUCTION, THE PASTOR TOLD THE CONGREGATION THAT THE GUEST MINISTER WAS ONE OF HIS DEAREST CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND THAT HE WANTED HIM TO HAVE A FEW MOMENTS TO GREET THE CHURCH AND SHARE WHATEVER HE FELT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE.

WITH THAT, AN ELDERLY MAN STEPPED UP TO THE PULPIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK. “A FATHER, HIS SON, AND A FRIEND OF HIS SON WERE SAILING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST,” HE BEGAN,“WHEN A FAST APPROACHING STORM BLOCKED ANY ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TO THE SHORE. THE WAVES WERE SO HIGH, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE FATHER WAS AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR, HE COULD NOT KEEP THE BOAT UPRIGHT AND THE THREE WERE SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AS THE BOAT CAPSIZED.”

THE OLD MAN HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH TWO TEENAGERS WHO WERE, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SERVICE BEGAN, LOOKING SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN HIS STORY. THE AGED MINISTER CONTINUED WITH HIS STORY, “GRABBING A RESCUE LINE, THE FATHER HAD TO MAKE THE MOST EXCRUCIATING DECISION OF HIS LIFE: TO WHICH BOY WOULD HE THROW THE OTHER END OF THE LIFE LINE. HE ONLY HAD SECONDS TO MAKE THE DECISION. THE FATHER KNEW THAT HIS SON WAS A CHRISTIAN AND HE, ALSO, KNEW THAT HIS SON'S FRIEND WAS NOT. THE AGONY OF HIS DECISION COULD NOT BE MATCHED BY THE TORRENT OF WAVES.” AS THE FATHER YELLED OUT, 'I LOVE YOU, SON!' HE THREW OUT THE LIFE LINE TO HIS SON'S FRIEND. BY THE TIME THE FATHER HAD PULLED THE FRIEND BACK TO THE CAPSIZED BOAT, HIS SON HAD DISAPPEARED BENEATH THE RAGING SWELLS INTO THE BLACK OF NIGHT. HIS BODY WAS NEVER RECOVERED.

BY THIS TIME, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE SITTING UP STRAIGHT IN THE PEW,
ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT WORDS TO COME OUT OF THE OLD MINISTER'S MOUTH. “THE FATHER,” HE CONTINUED, KNEW HIS SON WOULD STEP INTO ETERNITY WITH JESUS AND HE COULD NOT BEAR THE THOUGHT OF HIS SON'S FRIEND STEPPING INTO AN ETERNITY WITHOUT JESUS...THEREFORE, HE SACRIFICED HIS SON TO SAVE THE SON'S FRIEND.

"HOW GREAT IS THE LOVE OF GOD THAT HE SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR US. OUR HEAVENLY FATHER SACRIFICED IS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WE COULD BE SAVED. I URGE YOU TO ACCEPT HIS OFFER TO RESCUE YOU AND TAKE A HOLD OF THE LIFE LINE HE IS THROWING OUT TO YOU IN THIS SERVICE." WITH THAT, THE OLD MAN TURNED AND SAT BACK DOWN IN HIS CHAIR AS SILENCE FILLED THE ROOM.

THE PASTOR WALKED SLOWLY TO THE PULPIT AND DELIVERED A BRIEF SERMON. WITHIN MINUTES AFTER THE SERVICE ENDED, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE AT THE OLD MAN'S SIDE. "THAT WAS A NICE STORY, BUT UNREALISTIC" THEY SAID POLITELY, "FOR A FATHER TO GIVE UP HIS ONLY SON'S LIFE IN HOPES THAT THE OTHER BOY WOULD BECOME A CHRISTIAN." "WELL, YOU'VE GOT A POINT THERE," THE OLD MAN REPLIED, GLANCING DOWN AT HIS WORN BIBLE. A BIG SMILE BROADENED HIS NARROW FACE.

HE ONCE AGAIN LOOKED UP AT THE BOYS AND SAID, "IT SURE ISN'T VERY REALISTIC, IS IT? BUT, I'M STANDING HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU THAT STORY GIVES ME A GLIMPSE OF WHAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR GOD TO GIVE UP HIS SON FOR ME. YOU SEE...I WAS THAT FATHER AND YOUR PASTOR IS MY SON'S FRIEND.'

Really Cool Experience Today

by LisaPetrarcaComment Published at 22:1122:117 comments7 comments23 Visits23 VisitsReport

Today I picked the kids up from school after a pretty stressful day at work. We pulled up to a stop light and had the windows down because it was pretty warm. We were talking about that movie Leatherheads that is coming out soon when all of a sudden an older lady that pulled up next to us and said, "I need to tell you something, I need to tell you that the Lord loves you and you need to remember that." We were all a little shocked and I said, "Thank you, he loves you also." She said, "I know," and drove off. The boys turned to me and said, "Wow, that was really cool...it was so random....but awesome."

I dropped the kids off at track and felt a little choked up. How often does something like that happen? It's really nice to have someone remind you how much you're cared for. I felt such a peace and happiness come over me. Later Anthony and I went to the beach to walk Allie and I took some pictures of the sunset.

I can't stress enough how random acts of kindness can make a difference in someone's day! Today I just happened to be the lucky recipient. GO OUT AND CHANGE SOMEONES LIFE!
