Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Comment Published at 19:3919:3934 comments34 comments69 Visits69 VisitsReport

For Winnie because she asked about the Blue Mountains etc in a previous blog. Marg and Janice because they love nature so much, and Emz, for my absence at being a good friend over the weekend when she was having a rough trot. xox

These piccies are of MicroMe at home, sulking while he feeds the birds, as he got in trouble for throwing their dish off the balcony. (Yes, the birds are eating toasted muesli - we haven't any bird seed at present). These are rainbow lorikeets which are fairly common in our area, and quite friendly. We also get a few kookaburras, and we used to have a groovy little grey owl, that was quite tame too, however I think he ate all the vermin and left us.

This is MaxiMe and MicroMe at NannaTerri's place in O'Connell... The back yard and the front yard LOL We have more pictures out back and the historic Fish River - however MicroMe wants to do his own blog about them, and his antics about driving us crazy.

We, (Drew, Matt, MaxiMe and Me), spent the day abseiling and climbing up at the Dam Cliffs, which are in Clarence, near the Zig Zag Railway. Clarence is about the 2nd last station on the Blue Mountains track, just before Lithgow, heading North West out of Sydney on the Bells Line of Road. It is a great place for beginners, or just to practice and muck about if you haven't been climbing much lately (Matt and myself).

There is also a great Dam (hence the name) for swimming in, we jump off the cliff in the middle - I think it is about 10metres - maybe less, I am short! Plus it is so cold, it kind of numbs your brain and you have no idea what is going on.

We did a bit of abseiling off the rocks and some off a dodgy old crane- which probably isn't recommended, but a heck of a lot of FUN, and they haven't any signs to say not too... LOL

How did i miss this, lovely lady....what awesoome & amazing photo's!  Jaydee, what better company rainbow lorikeets, while your sulking. Know the mountains well Lui, but not well enough it seems, never found that inviting dam, especially  on a day like today.

Gee lui, your alot gamer than i, abseiling...i knew you had a zest for life and adventure and my nickname "Wildone" is very apt....but does look like it was a whole lot of fun....hanging from mid air, oh no!!!!!....but love your style.

Love JJ xxxx

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

LOL - but you didn't miss it did you?  He loves his birdies, however he freaks them out a bit squealing and jumping about.

There are some great spots in the mountains - Drew knows them very well, though that is one that has easy access, and is pretty cruisy.

Everybody climbs - isn't that why we have thumbs?  Hahaha... I suck now, I was so weak, and much heavier than I ought to be - gotta get rid of these MummaJugs!  xox

Wow weeeee. Oh Jaydee I can sulk tooooooooooooooooooooo, those there Blue Mountains are just wow, such a cool place to play. I feel a sulk coming on, I want to go there, yesterday. Seriously though, what a great place to relax and climb away the stresses of the day to day rountine. Makes our little playground look tame and cold http://www.ukclimbing.com/photos/item.html?crag=256&rockfax=74 . Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to see the Blue Mountains for real. Sigh. Thankyou, Lui, you fair made my day, being stuck in the hospital all day, this has given me a much needed breath of fresh air. Have a great weekend.

Luv,Winnie.xx

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Cool link - so that's your local area?  I'll show it to Drew too, he is our real family fanatic (MaxiMe would be, but we eat into his budget and time).  I am so glad you like it, I don't ususally take any scenic shots, but I snapped a couple with you girls in mind.

Maybe one day you will - everything is possible in life, if you wish it, dream it, and expect it - you will get it.

Cheers to you lovely lady - Lui xox

Back?  Where did I go?  Looks like I was gone at the right time anyway LOL!  I sure can't imagine you making a sulk face.  You will have to get one of your awfully clever kids to email me a family pic so I can imagine you better than that avatar. xox

That's so weird, I dreamed you did move here, and we were driving around in a 4wd checking out all these people whose homes got flooded and we were arranging alternative accommodation and food for them... Weird, the 4wd was huge and awesome though!

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Nah, I was slack, I didn't even text you when we were in range... Mainly because it was usually when we were in the car, and Drew and MaxiMe make me carsick LOL!

He is smiling now, he is in the living room dancing in his boxer shorts and gumboots to the Wiggles Show.  For some reason, whenever they come on, he feels compelled to wear his 'dancing boots'.  I have enrolled him in Kinda Dance, so hopefully he will get some groovy moves happening!

I didn't swim that day, because we had to get going to look after MicroMe, and get to the bottlo before our BBQ and all.  Plus there were a few kids around, and I don't think their parents would be too keen for them to see us jump - they were daring each other all the time.

Crazy - life is for living - not watching, you know that!

Gosh you always have so much fun! But my favourite by far is the sulk! I love it! What a little drama-king! hee hee, Caitlin is the queen, but he can be the king!
Looks like you had a ball, so beautiful! You forget that nature can be so close to the city!

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Well I must say I do prefer the sulk face to that big gulp of air before I scream face!

Yeah, there is a lot of nature to be had in the city too, and the mountains aren't that far away, and it's only 200km to stay with Nanna & Granpa LOL.

What a fantastic weekend you had! I have tried abseiling once & that was enough for me - I would love to be able to do it but I'm a little scared, HAHA! Don't kids look adorable when they sulk? You have to stop yourself from laughing at their little crossed arms & espression! LOL Teshia xxoo

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Isn't he funny!  He is experimenting with expressions now - he is a proper little actor, they are all quite practiced and somewhat exaggerated.  It is so hard not to laugh at them when they are like that - sometimes I have to run to the bathroom to giggle.  We had a great weekend - spoiled by MicroMe's grandparents, and great grandparents.

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

There is heaps to do - even though they aren't real mountains, they are real fun!  There are some nice things to do with bubs as well, though we're more into the outdoorsy stuff and have to rely on the outlaws to sit for us.  (Which they do, but it means travelling to Bathurst first).

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Yeah, i would have to find the stuff to do with bubs coz i'm not quite ready to be leaving him for more than a few hours, but still, the mountains are only a 3 hour drive from here, so it would be worth looking into for us...

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

We took MicroMe here for as part of his first birthday celebrations - he loved it.  It is small and pretty cruisy, we mucked about there for a couple of hours.  There are plenty of walks if that aren't too strenuous if you have a baby backpack, and lots of nice restaurants and historic buildings and things to see, you'd be able to have a good time with him along.

Yes, we did have a pretty good weekend... A few barbies, drinks, and a little party topped it all off quite nicely.  Thanks Dee.

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Hi

I'll take jumping of the rock into the water but you can keep the abseiling

Did it once and froze half way down.  Took two of the guys over an hour to get me down.

Which would have been fine but it was at the kangaroo point cliffs in Brisbane which really aren't that high about 12-15 feet but that was enough for me

I hate heights

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Good on you matey - giving those guys some rescue practice - pays to keep their skills up in case of a major rescue emergency.

I can't say I am a fan of heights, but I like to get in amongst the action no matter what is going on.  I didn't want to learn to climb and all, but it would be a bit rude to just abseil all the time and not do the other stuff.

You crack me up!

Re: Minti Chill Pill: Getting Down With Nature

Hi

Want to know what was even worse and more embarrasing

I was in the state emergency and it was a training night.

Was supposed to learn how to do it so i could go on search and rescue hahahaha....I'd be such a good rescuer  Some of them were running down the cliffs forward.

Needless to say i went to the catering and communication side after that lol.

I don't even like climing on a chair.

Luv Deb

Brilliant, I love it, see - you really were adding value to their training excercise, I hope they are greatful!

I'd rather be eating and talking any day, and I bet you are fantastic in that role.  We are all made different, and we all have our special talents (this is what I like to tell myself anyway).

Awesome - I see you have many blogs, I must stop playing in my own corner and venture out...
