Saving Baby

This post is from from my other blog here

There was a tragic story on the news the last night about how a learner driver clipped the gutter and ploughed into a group of pedestrians waiting at a bus stop. Unfortunately one young woman was killed and an 18-month-old toddler is fighting for his life.

However, another factor in this story got me thinking. Apparently, there was a 6-month-old in a pram among these pedestrians who were hit, and when his mother realised that they were going to be hit, she picked up the whole pram and with all her strength hurled it out of the way. Sounds insane, but ...

Hospital, apartment, argh!!!

When it rains it pours - how true!!

After a busy week was just starting to get everything under control, and then the rains came - no sorry, the pains came! On Sunday morning I was rushed to hospital with excruciating abdominal pain. It is Tuesday and I have just come home. And with no diagnosis. I have been poked, prodded, bruised, and not to mention had to deal with an older woman snoring like a trucker in the next bed, and the one across the room accidently pooing all over the floor (poor thing), and still don’t know what happened!!

And ...

All night long

This post is from from my other blog here

I woke up this morning to the strangest feeling. I was a little hungry and really needed to go to the toilet. And then I realised what had happened.

I hadn’t gotten up to Charley all night. She had slept through. And what’s more, at 7:45am, was still asleep.

So because I hadn’t gotten up to her during the night, I hadn’t been to the toilet or picked at some fruit while waiting for her bottle to warm up. It was the weirdest sensation.

So sleep hey? I could get used to that. :)

Happy Birthday Mum

This post is from from my other blog here

Charley has been watching a lot of Elmo’s birthday video, and has been loving making cakes out of playdough, so when she announced she was making me one, I wasn’t too fussed. Not even when I heard her rumaging around in the bathroom. And then she came out with this - happy birthday mum. :)

Far out what a busy week! We are just about to release some new functionality for mumspace.net and I have been so flat out organising it all that I am just getting back here - naughty naughty mad mummy!! Here is what has been going on.

Needing sleep!

For the last week or so, I have been getting about 3 hours sleep. Charley has gotten back into the whole wake and want to play thing - but for longer periods now. What to do?

Bar Xmas Party

Went out on a cruise on Tuesday night for the Northies Xmas Party - was great fun, ...

My new bed buddy

by madmadmummyComment Published at 15:0315:030 comments0 comments1 Visits1 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

For the last week or so, every night at around 3am, I hear little footsteps coming down the hall toward my bedroom. They are familiar footsteps, so I lay and wait until I get a tap on my shoulder. I open my eyes a crack to see a bedsheveled little Charley, saying "cuddle?". Instinctively I pick her up and hold her tight while she lays in bed between Richie and I. And that is where she stays until morning.

Now don’t get me wrong. It’s lovely, but I am a bit worried that she will become too attached to it and ...

Men and housework

by madmadmummyComment Published at 21:3221:320 comments0 comments1 Visits1 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

Ah, have been doing a lot of reading today, and have just finished reading an article about men and housework on MotherInc and it actually got me thinking a little about my own husband and his attempts at housework.

Lately Rich has been really busy helping me build mumspace, so I have been picking up most of the housework stuff, which is fine, but the one thing I do have to say about Rich and housework is that his concept of "done" is alot different to mine.

Take the after dinner cleanup for example. Rich seems to think that once everything ...

To young too drive?

They are turning on us - the toddlers that is.

Yesterday in Melbourne, a 30-something woman was hit by a car that her 18-month-old son was driving! Apparently he climbed in and somehow started the engine and somehoe got the car moving and somehow pinned his mother between the car and a brick wall, suffering a broken hip and pelvic injuries. You can read the full contents of the article here.

There you go mum - that’s what you get for not letting me eat lollies!! :)

Autumn magic

It’s a beautiul day in Sydney today - one of those days where the sun is shining and the sky is clear, but there is a crispness in the air that just makes being outside so pleasant. Makes it almost nice to leave the sweltering summer days behind, and try not to think about the frostiness that is to come.

Think I might just go for a lovely walk… :)

The dreaded harness

by madmadmummyComment Published at 21:5921:590 comments0 comments0 Visits0 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

I am not sure whether I have mentioned this already, but Charley’s refusal to sit in the pram or to hold my hand when we are at the shops has led me to purchasing a harness so that I am not house bound throughout the whole of the terrible twos.

Now BC, I hated the idea of a harness on a kid, and even during the first year vowed that I would never put one her. However as outings now mainly consist of chasing Charley around, trying to keep her from danger and desperately trying not to lose her, I have ...

Not as easy as it seems

This post is from from my other blog here

It’s funny - when people ask what you do and you tell them you’re a mum, they assume that it’s easy - you can read it all over their face - that is if they are not a mum themselves.

What they don’t realise though is the juggling that it takes to be a mum and also have some semblence of a life that doesn’t include your child. For me that means trying to get to the gym, trying to earn some money on the weekend, trying to keep my house in some kind of order (at least enough so that ...

The greatest hug of all

This post is from from my other blog here

Sometimes it is when you are feeling near your lowest, that your kids remind you that to them, you are everything. Today I had one of those moments.

During a particularly frustrating moment today, Charley tugged at my leg and said "cuddle?". It made me realise that no matter what happens today, to her I am the most important person in the world, who has all the answers and can fix everything.

I am sure that in twenty years time she will believe that she is the most important person in the world who has all the answers and can fix everything. ...

Yummy Mummy

This post is from from my other blog here

If you have checked out One Haute Mama’s mumspace lately you will see her post about yummy mummies - and her challenge to me as to what I think a real yummy mummy is.

Well, that’s easy. I am the yummiest mummy of all. But only when I have clothes on. :)

And that is because most of my clothes are covered with chocolate stains. YUMMY! I even have a couple with coffee stains (YUMMO!) and the best of all is my new white shirt that I bought just last week, which has now been made yummy with - spaghetti.YUUUUMMMMMMYYYY!!

So let’s pass the challenge on - MissieK, what do you reckon?

Missing my baby…

This post is from from my other blog here

Well this is my third day being husband and child free. Well atleast my last morning. Charley spent her second night at her grandmas last night, and when I got home from work last night and she wasn’t sleeping in her little bed, I felt like my left leg had been cut off!

While most of the time Charley can be so frustrating and even going to the shop is made 10 times harder, not having her here has made me realise just how much I love and cherish her. She will be home soon though - can’t wait. :) I ...

Some time to myself

Oh my goodness, something is off - I look around and what do I see? No husband, no Charley, just me.

Charley has gone to Grandmas for the night and Richie is doing some SES training. I don’t start work till 6:30 and even my friends are all busy. Hmmm.. what to do?

I have a heap of mumspace work to do, maybe I can get that done. But on the other hand…

Have hired three DVDs and there is a tub of (light) icecream in the freezer and (light) chocolate topping in the fridge. Its a no brainer - like this afternoon ...

Having a bit of a cry…

This post is from from my other blog here

Am watching this Miracle Babies for the first time (I am usually at netball, but I have a late game tonight).

Looking at all the premmie babies, first holds, first breastfeeds etc. takes me straight back to the time when we were in the hospital with Charley as a premmie. So many of these times I have blocked out because they were so traumatic - I was in serious denial the whole time. But seeing it on TV makes me realise how real it was and how lucky I am. :) Think I will go now and watch my little miracle ...

Why do I mumspace?

by madmadmummyComment Published at 00:5700:570 comments0 comments0 Visits0 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

And so the challenge begins. :)

This post is in response to MissieK’s blogging challenge - Why do I have my mumspace?

So why do I mumspace? Well to start with, as one of the co-founders of mumspace.net, I mumspace to give others the opportunity to mumspace - to give mums a place to really make their mark on the web.

Secondly, my mumspace is my creative outlet. It is the place where I put my thoughts. It is funny, I have been mumspacing so long now that I’ll think of something, or something will happen and I’ll think "Gotta put that ...
