Things and Stuff

Comment Published at 04:2704:2730 comments30 comments43 Visits43 VisitsReport

Boy, now that is what I need to do!  Get things done and stuff managed!!   I started out the weekend in a panic, but went my daughter arrived my Hubby thought of the perfect thing!   He took her with him to the farm where we get our produce!  Great idea!  We try to live 100 miles, to gain everything we need within our area.  Too bad we have to drive there but at least we make an effort to support the local farms directly.   If they raise their prices any more we will have to rethink it all!   They brought back fresh beans, potatoes and corn!  The seasons first!  So, so great to have fresh produce finally!  We Canadians can not do 100 miles through winter, sad but true!  Would lead to massive hunger!

I am to be making a bridesmaid dress... arggggggg!  Fine, got sucked in to offering and then found I had no desire to accomplish it. Bad me. Stalled tons, procrastinated even more and then the day before she was coming for the fitting of the non existent dress,  got to it!  I desided she needed something classy, it had to be navy and I need to finish the sleeves, set the zipper and hem it!   But today we go in really early to look after Sean for the day!  Weeeeheeeee!  Fun!  I hope so! The little guy was here for the dinner that ended up being in the weekend with half the clan and he had a ton of fun in the wagon we got for the Grandkiddies for here.  Isn't that neat???  Grandkiddies!!!!  So we thought we'd take that in with us... now to go buy gas....arggggg!  Why the heck is everything so expensive?

Yep, my sister has a great sense of humour...she still does but I watch her closely with B., I am afraid she with try to duct tape him into his huggies...LOL!

Re: Things and Stuff

Apology accepted. I  know you wouldn't delete my comment on purpose but I still can't stop laughing at that poor little one stuck in his nappy, When Helen first used Pampers I had a job to put them on to Thomas, I had only been used to Terry nappies

Lots of love and it is almost my bedtime

Re: Things and Stuff

Gas prices are ridiculus and it reflects in the prices of other things like produce...You have to take the good with the bad and you have a lot of good...Sean and Lucas being just two of the very good things...

Crazy glue and duct tape...if you ask I will tell you what I mean...ROFL...

Have a great evening, take care,

T.

Re: Things and Stuff

Yes they are seeing we Canadians paid extra for so long to insure gas was kept in Canadian hands.... to keep it nationalized so to speak, well they sold it off, we kept paying extra however they sell it south of the boarder where it is sold for 2 dollars a gallon as we pay 6 for the same gas!!!!  Now that just doesn't sit right that we as Canadians are actually helping pay for the much cheaper American gas!!!!  But then I don't agree with so many desions our government makes that affect evertday life. Soap box put away again!  Just makes you boil!   And appreciate the wee things .. just wish we could afford to go see them more often!

T, I am afraid to ask but here goes....  crazy glue and duck tape, eh????  LOL!!  I really hope it's not what I am thinking!!!  LOL!

Re: Things and Stuff

Yep, crazy glue and duct tape...LOL!

I don't know one end of a sewing needle from the other...and my two aunts are fantastic seamstrests (I don't even know how to spell it, tee hee)...It was a year or so after my mom passed away so it was left to me to see to the new curtains we had bought for our converted loft bedrooms...the curtains were too long...what to do?  I sized them up and came up with a brilliant idea...crazy glue...I folded the curtains to the correct length and put crazy glue on them...it worked and worked really really well, when my two aunts inspected them they were quite impressed because they could not see any stitches, congratulated me on a great job...LOL!  They didn't even consider there was no thread visible because of the fact there was NO thread...LOL!  They still have no clue what I did...ROFL

The duct tape...when my nephew was a baby (they were home from Toronto on vacation), my sister and my mom left my friend and me with Adam for a 1/2 hr. while they went to the store...(dad was here too), Adam was wearing a pamper,of course we decided to change it.  We put a clean one on him but we didn't know how to secure it...we couldn't figure it out so we got the duct tape out and taped him right around with duct tape, that diaper was more than secure..lol.  The diaper had to be cut off of him...luckily we thought of duct tape first and not crazy glue...

Re: Things and Stuff

You didn't!!!  I am totally killing myself thinking of your Aunts thinking you were the golden needle with your neat sewing..  er glueing!!! That just cracks me up!!!  I give you full points for clever!

But duck tapeing a baby!  Well we are Canadian and all, eh?? LOL!!! So, so funny!  At least the little chap was left with innovative people.  Good thing the crazy glue was not near, that could have been too much!

Well dear T . must admit that is very interesting to see what you get up to when left to your own innovations!!!  Handy little thing aren't you!  LOL!!

Re: Things and Stuff

Wow, talented lady! You obviously work best under pressure? Last minute just isnt me LOL!

Have FUN with Sean - it'll take years off you! Lucky boy that he is! Got to work hard to compete with his cousin now though.

Food is expensive, but at least we can still afford 3 square meals a day. I get brought up short reading my charity magazines where in plenty of countries ordinary people are down to one or two meals a day and protein once a week or less. I should learn to eat a little less, I know! But not THAT much less...

Re: Things and Stuff

What pressure???  Nah!  Pressure was when son desided he needed a special suit two days before the event!  Haaa, haaa, haaa....hummm maybe that is when I went crazy! ???  Could be! It was black velvet and if you have ever worked with that stuff it was tough,,, he also had a "liquid metal" shirt made by me that went with it.  Looked so cool but my machine didn't like the little metal fragments at all!

My day with Sean was fantastic, he was great but it did indeed take years off, I now feel 101 !  At least... oh need to lie down!  LOL!!!

Yes Kathryn, we are so, so very lucky to have food, and choices and the ability to feel full.  So many in this world don't know that. We go into  our stores and can pick out things that most of the world can only dream of. We have so much.

Re: Things and Stuff

No, I dont know what velvet or Liquid metal are like, I'm afraid - I was so awful at sewing at school that I opted to do woodwork instead (and I was useless at that too, but less so). I do however own a sewing machine, but I've only used it once and now lent it to MIL- it was Granny's and you should see the puffed sleeves (was it "shoulder of mutton" they called them?) in the instruction manual! Granny was born at the end of Queen Victoria's reign (I think 1898) and I'm not sure it would have been new when she bought it. It's a Singer, so of course it should last forever (especially if I dont use it LOL)!

Now you know I meant you to age the opposite direction - you will have to get your stamina built back up! Glad you had a fantastic time - worth every aching muscle I bet!

Re: Things and Stuff

Haaa, haaa no!  I know you are a realist, you knew it had to be up!  LOL!!!  Oh this morning... I didn't want to get up!  Haaa, haaa, me old!

Close Kathryn, I believe you mean the leg of mutton sleeve. But we are all trying to do things cheaper so we will leave it shoulder of mutton, much cheaper than a whole leg!  I have my Grandmother's old Singer too!  Love the thing, it is a work of art, all shinny black with a front plate in silver of raised grapes... what did grapes have to do with sewing?  Other than a glass of wine and you couldn't sew straight! LOL!!!  The old styles have such charm and I can't imagine wearing them!  Good thing moving forward for us woman has meant more liveable clothing!  Love my shorts and tank tops!   LOL!!  Imagine them in the late 1800's !  Scandal!

Re: Things and Stuff

I have seamstress  for all my life it seems and have done recovering work too. Basically anything with sewing. But I have been too tired of late, so it is good to get back at it I guess!  You are so right, there seems to be lame reasons each week that we face increases. Seems too much, how can people manage?  The Grandmother part is so very easy... and fun too! LOL!

Re: Things and Stuff

Ahhh Grandkiddies are so great emmie!  Just you wait, and wait, and wait seeing Chloe and Kylie are so young LOL!!  You will be like your Nan, I just bet you will be!

The 100 mile is what you are to limit yourself to.  To try to lessen your carbon footprint. Thank heavens the farm is just out where we use to live so about a 15 minute scoot!   A pint of beans, green or yellow has gone from a dollar ( I do remember when it was 25 cents!) to 3 dollars, 5 pounds of potatoes is 6 dollars!  Yikes!  Everything has gone up so much here!  You are to try to get everything you need within 100 miles of where you live so no tea or coffee for us and sugar is a problem but I found beet sugar that is free trade!   We do make exceptions, Hubby can not live without coffee.

Re: Things and Stuff

Humm, the trucking industry here complained loud and clear and our petrol ( gas for us guys here! ) has been 10 cents at least  more than the cheaper deisel.  However... the rates went up to accommodate the increase in fuel and I have not seen that rolled back!!!!  Imagine that!

When... and if the dress is a go I will try to talk my lovely daughter into a pose or to...do not wait on this!  LOL!!!

Grandkiddies, Grandkiddies, Grandkiddies,.... oooohhh soooo love it! LOL  Dear Lady you have my number! LOL  GRANDKIDDIES are great!
