Wednesday

I'm wondering how everyone is doing??? Sometimes the stress of managing everything in this holiday season can drive you nuts. All the fixing and shopping and planning and money that goes out can take it's toll. So how did it get like this? The idea is to draw family, friends and loved ones close. The religous base of it is often overlooked and it becomes a race to provide children that already have so much with more. A race to out party and out do the other. Woman are driven mad to do everything and clean house and prepare everything....no wonder this is the time for depression! We have little to go around this year but I think we will still have a great Christmas. I'm trying harder to be creative and I so feel for those out there that have requests from young ones that want a certain toy or thing that is too expensive. There is so much pressure to give. But what is important as a parent to give is love. Above all it's love. And I think you create a reasonable base for kids when you don't get pulled into all the hype and do what you can instead of what the advertizers try to push you into doing. Some times the one special thing for each of our five was too much and they all turned out!!! You give much more when it's yourself you give and not things. Sometimes a special dinner and an activity that was special was much more to remember than a toy that didn't live up to it's hype and was a disappointment. Things are forgotten, not moments and memories! And this year I've managed four small donations,my Hubby two larger ones,to the local charities because there are those with nothing that need help. We have so very much. Our families,a roof and what we really need each other. Have a Merry Christmas surrounded by those you love.

Re: Wednesday
I agree that Christmas is rather a bit too flashy, with too much emphasis on expensive gifts... It almost puts me off, however it is really what you make of it isn't it?  It is a great time to clean out your extra clothes/toys anything and donate them.  A good time to drop little gifts on your neighbors doorsteps and to donate gifts or your time to charity.

For us, we give of ourselves and our little man... He is basically Christmas in our family, and we take him to spend time with his grandparents and great grandparents, and hope he brightens their day.  At this age, he would be excited if he unwrapped a rock - which may well become a family tradition, as that is what I gave my dad one year, when he said that would do - I pinched it from his own garden too.  LOL

Re: Wednesday
You know I am not stressing about Christmas... I have not even sent my folks anything.. (but I will get around to it.. ) Something should arrive for them before the year is out... :)

As for kids, I think the trick is not to ask them what they want, then you don't get the really big lists... LOL    I love my dads saying  "you'll get what your given."   Ok  sounds harsh, but if you know my dad you'll know he does not mean anything mean by it..

Christmas really is a time for being with family and for the past two Christmas's I have been very lucky.. My sister came in 2005 with her husband for Francis's first Christmas, and we were able to get back to Australia for Christmas 2006.   Christmas with my husbands family is always a ball of fun... You can really feel the love...     I was actually shocked the first time I had Christmas with my husband and step daughter.. I could not believe that he gave her a Sears Catalog (kinda of like Myers) and told her to do up a wish list... I suppose that is works good for some, but I was missing the element of surprise....  It has been a long time since he has done that.... These days when she asks for something expensive or just says she wants something, I say ask your mother... It is a kind of small joke between the two of us... Because a couple of times I said ask your mother and she said but she told me to ask you... :)

May your Christmas be merry and your new years bright... Heres hoping you have a fantastic Christmas with  your family... xxxxx

Re: Wednesday
Well what can you send your Mom and Dad other than your love??? They are like us and really don't need anything. Can you get gift cards for resturants for there??? That's always neat! Jess I know how much you would want to be there this Christmas. I'm sending vibes your Dad's way and I really think he's going to do fine. Must be so tough on you. Take care,we all are pulling for him and you!

Re: Wednesday

OMG am I supposed to clean up the house before Christmas????? Ahhhggg. Oh well kids are on school holidays next week for 6 weeks so they can do it - they made the mess anyway!

My kids know that it is the thought behind Christmas that is important, not what they get from us (however the rellies are a different matter! LOL) The youngest is still in Santa mode, and he and the big boys know that Santa may only be coming to him this year, as the other 2 are getting too big. I just don't know what to get them, and can't afford to get them something either. Will have to wait til after Christmas for the sales.

Anyway, enough negative, time is about positive. So have a good lead up to Christmas, and enjoy yourself on Christmas day.

Leisa

Re: Wednesday
Hi Leisa!!! Hope you have a wondeful Christmas. Reality isn't negative!!! You have a right to state things as they are and the truth is that Christmas takes a lot of money and that causes stress...does for me! I think it is really hard to strike a balance with everything coming at you of what you're suppose to provide and that's not always realistic for everyone. Hope you have a great time at your Christmas...and less stress and guilt...we all do what we can and that should be good enough!!!

Re: Wednesday
Thats so true and so beautiful to read, every year Christmas is so stressful and it really shouldn't be, I can't wait to take my kids and Molly lol down the coast to mum & dads and have a quite little Christmas dinner, Mums getting a break this year so it will be just my family and them, no mum and me standing in a hot kitchen stressing if the food will all be ready on time.... oh no its prawns, cold meats and salad for us......  Apart from my little hick up of letting hubby do the Christmas shopping and going overboard, I'm determined to focus on what Christmas is all about and not stress about the things that can look after themselves.....
Love Fi xxxx

Re: Wednesday
Hi
So very well said
We are having a simple lunch at our place with my father and his wife and Darrens mum and her husband and his sister and her 2 children
Dads bringing some ham Marlene (Darrens mum) is bringing some prawns and I am going to ask his sister to bring either a salad or a dessert
We are adding some chook and pork and salads and finger foods to this.
Everything can be done the day before and we are going to have a Christmas as a family
The kids and I are going to be making serviette holders and some sleighs that i have a pattern for to hold a few nibblies and we are making our own bon bons without the silly hats that no one wants to wear and no little toys for Jalan to choke on and with a special verse in each to show our love.
It is going to be done very casually and simply just as if it would be if we had them over for lunch on any other day.
Give everyone a simple relaxed Christmas to remember without all the hype and worry.
Then they can all go off and visit other family members and friends and such as they do
We can clean up easily and have a afternoon of rest.
I am tired of the hype that is a letdown
On what other day do people eat 7 different meats and stuff themselves silly...Time to put all the hype behind us and discover the true meaning once again
Family and love
Wish it would snow though lol
Luv Deb

Re: Wednesday
Hi
If you bring the snow you can come
Actually even if you don't bring the snow you can still come
Cause i heard something about snow

I made myself a snow ball as perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet and let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas and a pillow for it's head.
Then, last night it ran away.
But first -- it wet the bed
.

You know this is just rude and ungrateful of snowballs you know
So come along without the snow cause i will have no control over making snowballs and throwing them at people cuase i dont want them to wet my bed...thats just yucky
Luv Deb

Re: Wednesday
Well said Marg. Yes, I am going mad, but just coz there's so much to fit in. The donations are a great idea. This year Im sending e-cards to anyone I know the email address of (last year it was charity ones, this time Ive found a really good artist - you'll love the dogs Marg, see my Blog for a link) and if I'd seen this Living Gifts idea in time I would have sent out a lot of these, but Im spent up already! It looks like you can get them sent to anyone, so if you miss the last post to the UK, you can email your order and they'll get sent by UK post, or if someone is online I expect you could print your own and they could go online in Canada and use them. Seems like a good idea to me. Next year.... or birthdays! And we have just started to Sponsor a child in the third world to go to school, which seems extra appropriate at Christmas. Im trying to work out some family games so we can have FUN together - pass the parcel we did last year, and I think something with chopsticks and chocolate coins should all have us laughing! (Now, do we feed Granny & Grandpa in teams, or feed ourselves against the clock?) Dad came from a family who loved party games, but mum always despised these games worst luck, so I need to find some she can tolerate, and as she is a chocoholic, these should pass muster!

Wooo Girl!!! I can feel the speed you're moving at! You have some great ideas there but just make sure Kathryn enjoys herself too! After all...we usually are so busy making sure everyone else is good that we never think of having fun ourselves! Take care and hope you get some sleep!
