Bloggin' Again!

Comment Published at 00:0900:0922 comments22 comments49 Visits49 VisitsReport

Well we made the trek up to clean again but up and back in one day.   Sad to only stay a short time but neat just to be there.   The bug situation wasn't as bad,no bugs around the water to the cottage but behind it where it's more sheltered the flies that I am sure where sent from hell stlll reign.   The three of us worked like crazy and just before it was time to leave my Hubby disappeared and then my Son!    When an hour had passed and I couldn't locate them I bellered.   Yup!!!   Hollered my lungs out.   Now I rarely resort to this but I was so tired from walking every where looking for them and the clock was ticking down to when we were to leave.   Plus I figured seeing they never do this there was a good chance a bear needed to be scared off.   No Hubby or Son answered and I could hear that god aweful call echoing around the lake!!!   Poor wildlife, they probably thought some horrid new type of whooping crane had just moved in.!!!   So when Son and Hubby didn't answer, they are just ignoring me,what do you do???   Call old some times faithful dog, after all he had trotted off with them!!    Well he shows minutes after being called and therefore Son and Hubby are not too far off!    Dog stood there amused I think at me being frustrated and was desended on by the hoard of flies!!!   Crazy to be rid of them, specially off his ears ,he ran to the lake and in he went!   Now that's great!   One wet stinky dog to transport back in the car!    The two missing ones appeared and they had about two quarts of blueberries!   Hummm wild blueberries....maybe I could forgive them seeing they were smart enough to not get eatten by a bear!!   They were all excited because they had a neat adventure.   They were picking the berry bushes by the water and walking a long when a very large dear snorted at them and moved slowly off.   Son had never been that close or heard a deer do that!!   It was a large older male that didn't want to move or be bothered so he was voicing his displeasure at being rousted during his day hours nap time!   Hubby said he had a full antler set or rack and that he was very large.   That's exciting and I wish I had been with them!  When I had been looking for them I had come across several large snakes that made the walk worth it and Son and I had seen several large ones up the hill when we came up.  But seeing a deer is somehow neater!

Off we left for home and the air would not work in the car, it was very hot so the windows were  put down.   As we went along we were being covered by a swirling vortex of dog fur.   As stupid dried out his shedding fur took flight.   A lot was flowing out the window,a white swirling mass rising up and then out!   Funny to think of all that fur floating out free as we passed!    Every time he shifted a new assult was launched!    When we hit our driveway I was relieved to be home, out of the fur and I was tired and sweaty from the heat and work and so itchy from the fur but I was greeted by the neatest surprise!!!   Here were all these cars and a bike!   Oh!!!    All the kiddies were in!   I was told to get ready and I was so excited because the thought of what the heck are we going to feed everyone had already crossed my mind.    I got showered and ready in record time!     We were taken out to dinner by my eldest Son!    All of us and we were a huge table!   Sean had his first dinner out  with us!   It was great!  I had lobster, crab and shrimp!    I tried all sorts of new food that was beyond wonderful!  I felt totally spoilt!!     In fact I was, came home to cake and gifts and had such a great time.   Comes to mind that the sacrifices we wonder if our children ever notice.... well they do!   And when they acknowledge and give you extra loving just because...geeee it's great!!   Just the effort of everyone getting together,it gets harder as everyone's life gets going in different directions, would have been more than enough but I am so grateful for it all because it was an event to remember!!!  But I am soooo tired,I think I did get older, darn!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Wow, snakes! But it's a shame you missed the deer, and the excitement of the blueberry hunt! At least they didnt leave without you! That was a great visual picture of the fur flying out of the car. Perhaps it's as well your aircon wasnt working, as maybe all that fur would have stayed in the car instead of being scattered to the four corners of Canada? That dinner sounds great, and to have Sean with you must have really been the icing on the cake!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Snakes worth the walk! Ah Marg, now you make me laugh. Your the only person I know who likes to see snakes. Could be that they are deadly here, so it's not really good to come across one! I did a lot of bush walking when I was a kid and had my fill of snakes!!!!

But seeing the stag would of been great, those naughty naughty men!!

LOL That dog is a classic!! I could really picture the clouds of fluff hahahahahaha

What a fantastic surprise! I know having all the family together, you would of loved it!! Yum. all that seafood! My favourite.

Now will you stop all this crazy cleaning and have just a bit of a rest!!

Much love and big hugs,

Cath xxxoooxxx

Re: Bloggin' Again!
those blueberries sound so nice as for the bears you are all so brave if you ask me! when we were in greece travelling in 2005 we were heading towards florina north part of greece . there was always fresh mountain water running and taps where we would always fill our water bottles. but when we got to the foot of these mountains there was a sign warning "look out for the bears" i always thought only canada had bears! i wouldnt even get out of the car hubby had to fill it all ah what a lovely surprise awaiting you when you got home. going out to dinner and enjoying your birthday with your family cheers annie

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Yah,my whole group can sure keep a secret!!!  Don't bears spread all through the northern hemisphere?? I know Russia has bears! China does.   All across Canada and into the States.  Are there bears in the southern hemisphere, like Chile and Argentina??? Africa doesn't have bears do they???  Doooo now I wonder??? Will have to look into that. Anyhooo,it is a case up there where you know they are about so if you see a cub you know the Momma is near and will be protective.  The bears if they know you are there will avoid you so making tons of noise is good.  But I love to walk as noiselessly as I can through the woods to see it all.  It takes practice but you can walk right through all the ground cover and make little noise.   With the blueberries full this year there are bound to be bears, they love those too!!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

My friend your not getting  old, your only a pup! and so young in heart & mind. Gee i'm not telling Steve about all this wildlife, he will be spitting chips, don't know why unless it something to do with seeing them at the cottage.

Hubby didn't have to put another shrimp on the barbie, this time.....what a wonderful surprise you kiddies gave you...plus a chance to try something new and exciting. Wow all that seafood is getting you prepared for when you both come over here.

Will await my piece of birthday cake in the mail, hope you recieved some fantastic pressies. But most of all i know  how you would have felt just having your kids together at home....would have been the best birthday present .

Love Janice xxxx

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Well having them here was great but you know what the best was....all my hugs!!! I got lots!!! Lots of warm great hugs...I was so spoilt!!!  Haaa, haaa it was great!!!

I'll take you up on that!! Prawn on the barby!!!  LOL!!  See!!!  I can learn!  Yes summer is here and the snakes are so bright, you can tell the ones that have just shed, their colours are so intense! The one was about a good meter long and 23 cm around, wonderful large fellow!    Son got so close walking by that he coiled into strike position which was beautiful to see but he calmed back down when he saw we weren't going to disturb him.   The bugs are affecting the widlife this year.  Reports are that moose and deer are coming out into clearings to escape the bugs this year,it has been so wet.   It was a very tiring day but so wonderful!!!  Take care, I still miss you! STill think you should be HERE!!!  LOL!  hugs to you

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Oooh I can picture that Stag. Lovely sight to behold. Come on then, the type of beast, I need to know, I am learning about Canadian wildlife from you here on minti, and loving it. I google them all, so native deer names needed to further my sense of wonder.LOL Was it a Red Deer? The Male Red can be very Majestic. I love them, both on the hill and uhm in the freezer. Snakes, uhm well, the nearest to snakes here for me is the little Adder, a joker if ever there was one, though poisonous he is sensible about sharing his venom.LOL

What a lovely treat, to be wined and dined by your lovely Kids. Envious of your lobster, shrimp fest, hehe. Tired, oh my gosh girl, so not surprised. I dont know how you found the energy to acheive what you did, and being poorley. I do so hope you will be able to put your feet up and look after you for a little while now. Thinking of you.

Re: Bloggin' Again!

White-tailed Deer!!  Sorry Winnie,I do leave things out don't I??  Smaller than the deer that is more out on the west coast.  These deer are very common through the lower woodlands all through the province of Ontario!  The young are born early in the spring and usually only have one fawn that is so very cute, born spotted down the back!!  They can be very delicate looking but can jump many yards straight up and can climb terrain quite well.   They are hunted here as over population leads to less food and unhealthy animals but it is through tags and no organized hunt.

I was so thrilled to have a party!!   So neat and even better when all you have to do is enjoy yourself and eat every thing in sight! LOL!!   I hate even to admit I'm sooo pooped but I'll get a second wind any time now!! LOL!!  Take care dear Lady, thinking of you too!

Hello Dear Fi!!  Good thing to know I don't add to the nausea!  I so feel for you,I know how tough that is to deal with and I too spent a lot of my time pregnant alone waiting for Hubby to return and throwing up morning till night! Sucks so much! .  So dear Lady...I think I would love to pamper you.  Set you alone for some rest, take Miss G to do something interesting and see you relax while I cooked you home made soup!  Bet that would stay down and do you some good!  Actually I would love to take care of you,you little Sweety....haaa haaa would do us both good!!!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

I was brought up in a small town in Devon where there used to be several Stag Hunts going on in the area, NO I don't like that sport at all, but I remember one specific day when I had my oldest in his pram and we were walking into town, a young deer ran and almost barged into my pram, the panic in the deers face was awful, he was being chased through a town !!!!!

The deer eventually ran into a plate glass window and the hunters shot it !!!!!!!!

There was a lot of outrage in the town, I just always remember the fear in that majestic animal as it reered. How dare they hunt that animal out from its natural habitat into an area of people cars buses lorries etc and then shoot it in the high street !!!!!

I was so angry !!!!!!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Oh Helen, what a horrible thing to witness and yet such a powerful statement on respecting all life.   Yes,  I know those eyes having seen them often in the wild and it is tragic that we humans take all and leave next to nothing for that which we should treasure!

Re: Bloggin' Again!

Hello Pauline,I can only hope it put a lot of people off!   With the parks that run through a lot of cities in Canada we often see were the young ones end up in areas they shouldn't be.  Some times it ends well other times not.  I always hope in favour of the deer.
