She will use it when she goes on school camp next month.

First tooth

This post is from from my other blog here

On Friday evening I, with the boys, took my daughter to the school. She had been chosen to attend the Geelong v Western Bulldogs game at Etihad Stadium. Twelve children and 4 carers went and they had chips and sof drinks in the corporate box. How lucky! My daughter said, "I go for the game. I stay for the food." She enjoyed the experience.

The boys and I waited for my husband to pick us up after he finished work. J was laughing as he looked at me in the mei tai and I noticed something. Uh oh. No longer a gummy bear. There was a tooth just appearing. I had to lament, have a little cry, because I was in no rush for him to get teeth! I could feel the sharpness of the tooth though its hard to see. Its his bottom left. The right one is just pushing through too.

My eldest boy rang his Nanna (my Mum) and asked if he and his brother could stay the weekend! So after my daughter was picked up, we just had our eldest and youngest for the night. On Saturday we picked up the boys and a sewing machine! We went to Geelong for dinner which was great. On the way back we were all singing Magic Dirt (Geelong should be proud). "Hung" is my husband's favourite song from the "Beast" album. The kids were singing it word for word!

My littliest boy in his first Mama made crochet longies

8 months J
Originally uploaded by inakid

Today J is 8 months. I just finished his first ever crochet longies. They are a perfect fit. Most of his longies are too small or too big. I am very happy with how they turned out. The yarn is Vintage Hues which is 12ply 100% wool. I bought 3 balls from an opshop in Essendon for $5!

Since J is 8 months, he had an appointment to see the maternal health nurse. We decided to go. His weight has gone done which was surprising. He is now 9.3kg and measures 73cm with a head circumference of 45.9cm so he's still growing.
He is almost exclusively breastfed on demand and is active so it makes sense he has slimmed down. Still he is very healthy.
The nurse as usual, talked with us about immunisation. She strongly believes that vaccination and the availablilty of clean water have done much to help with the eradication of diseases. Even though I can easily disagree with many of her points I don't. I keep quiet. Husband is polite and nods along. In the end she respects the decision we have made. She did bring up the point of natural immunity. I wonder if that is harder to achieve now. And how do you know if you have natural immunity? Many childhood diseases are now harder to catch. My husband and I (like many people my age) have had chicken pox but my kids haven't. I know Varicella has only just become a part of the schedule so not sure if chicken pox has just been harder to get?
So much rambling as I continue to ponder these things....
The nurse makes it obvious that she likes to see us with "a normal healthy baby". She tells us about the many children that come in that are behind their milestones and are not very healthy. I wonder if vaccinations have anything to do with that? The modern lifestyle?
I appreciate the nurse saying, "Whatever you're doing, its good. Keep it up." Results speak loudly. Truly happy baby, happy mama and happy family. That's my goal, to enjoy the every day.

Kids in the month of May

This post is from from my other blog here

My littliest boy will be 8 months tomorrow. He has started getting up to stand supported. He doesn't quite know how to get back down though. He has started to be more clingy to me, even attached to me all night.

My daughter is officially a St Johns junior cadet. She enjoys going and feels settled in. She is still very excited about art school. She has started painting. The subject is still fruit for the purpose of learning. She can choose what to paint next.

Meanwhile my eldest son is allowing me to teach him a few basics on the guitar. He is passionate about learning.

Av has needed an outlet as he is very active. He usually crashes out and has a nap most days but can be full on when awake. He gladly calls himself a chatterbox and as such his vocabulary has improved. Lately he has enjoyed cutting up vegees and cooking in a little pan. He has a passion for it and its great to see.

These are crocheted with recycled 10ply organic wool which is wonderful, from a free pattern, Little Fire pants. Thick soft luxury!

First go at back shaping. Much easier and nicer than short rows as in knitting.

My daughter sought out an art school because she just loves her drawing and art as a whole. She misses doing it at school and has been reading up on contextual art. She found out that there was a local art school and got the number for her Dad to call. They checked it out last week. It is a class held by a qualified teacher in a priavte studio in the back of her house. She went for her first lesson Monday night. First learning about shapes and circles. She was given a graphite pen and did some charcoal work. First subject is fruit, my daughter did an orange and pear. In the future she can choose her subject. I am so happy for her as I can see her passion growing. My daughter started drawing at 18 months and really hasn't stopped since. She turned 9 in February.

Also made one for my eldest boy.

Having problems with computer and photos etc atm so this will do.

Mum

Mothers Day is back again. Its so interesting we have one day to reserved for mothers out of 365 days, when the realities of motherhood clearly go beyond what society defines to have one day set aside is an understatement. From Eve to now, there are so examples of attributes from my own Mum to my wife. One I can name is built in determination. My wife decided to have our son at home without medical assistance last year. This tested my resolve and my faith to the core, however her faith in God shonethrough when everyone had serious doubts including me. But God replaces fear with faith and despair and anger with love and commitment. I knelt with my wife with a prayer in my heart, as she gave birth to my son Jhansen at home.

Roadtrip (Wollongong- Nowra)

This post is from from my other blog here

Sydney is crazy busy. It is the biggiest city in Australia with the strangest roads! They have many one way roads as well as narrow streets. We headed to Wollongong, thinking it would be quieter there.

I was surprised at the sheer volume of trees in the area.
We had a look at Sublime Point.

It was just as busy in Wollongong too.

We had lunch where we could find parking then headed to Nowra.

Another deserved sleep.

I should mention we didn't plan this trip much at all yet we were always able to get a place to sleep even though we had to ask at a few places. We originally planned to go through Canberra like we have before but decided to go down the coast intead.
