On my back Vatanai Valensole

by mcmComment Published at 02:3002:301 comments1 comments32 Visits32 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

I finally have a Vatanai wrap. I justified it as a birthday present for J. He is happy with that. J has not been very happy this week even cranky and screaming a lot. So I have been taking the opportunity to carry him more around the house.
I have found it much easier to deal with than the Didymos, probably due to the weight and length.

I even managed to get J on my back though I needed help to tie it.

Sew what

This post is from from my other blog here

My daughter came with me when I went to Spotlight the other day to get some inexpensive cotton (Anchor Magicline $9.95 for 10 balls). She was asking to make something for her friend who is having a party on Friday. Of course drawing and making cards is a given but she wanted to do something more. We decided to give hand sewing a felt doll a go. It is her project but I was there to help her.

The sewing missed a few holes but for her first handsewn item she did fine.
I think she did a fantastic job with the embroidery like she is a natural. That talent she did not get from me.

Even my eldest son wanted to try sewing.

A seamless crochet singlet which I am happy with though a little tight on J.

I had thought of making baby underwear for a while. Here is my attempt. I am happy with them.

The singlet and underwear are crocheted in soysilk.

Also another pair of slippers, this time in Karaoke soy/wool.

Fixation summer hat

Fixation is a cotton with elastic content. Its hard to work with at first but much easier than using knitting in elastic like I have done in years past.

A hat that may stay on longer than most and stretches to fit.

I had an idea for a crochet singlet early one morning and crocheted this suit up that day. I am very happy with it though its a little tight on J. It has buttons for a crotch opening.

These slippers were so quick and easy. Made in Malabrigo which is nice to work with.

How awesome is this caped top? It has guitar print that matches pants he has.

It has an A on the front. Can you tell he is rapt? He is Superman or a Dragon most days.

Awesome stitch markers, 12ply organic (colourway Kym's!) wool and sticks, candles and pin.
Love it all!
Received from someone who doesn't call herself crafty but she is definitely artistic.

The kids had so much fun opening it all up and oohing and ahhing over it all!

My parcel has been sent and received. Included is organic crocheted hairscarf, butterfly washcloths with seashell ring as well as baby clothes, fabric and notions, fairtrade chocolate.

Making the most of the every day

 Just because....

{love}

The kids are on 3 week school holiday as they change campuses. This week has gone very fast with us trying to make the most of the big kids being home.
We went to the Drive In and saw GForce and Up. Great value for families thats for sure and its a novelty.

Unfortunately J has been not his usual self the past week. I wonder if its teeth or growing pains. Or is this the new cranky toddler version? He was never really a demanding baby so I may have to adapt to save my sanity.

J ate up a storm for dinner though probably double was piffed to the floor. He even enjoyed his cup with water for the first time.

After a sunny day, the rain came down.
We went home for cake where my boy decided to sleep and take a raincheck.

My daughter put a pair of  shorties in the wash so this is really a replacement though honestly he doesn't need  anymore woollies for the moment.

Crocheted in Malabrigo worsted. J is continuing to practice his standing, steps, and balance. He loves dancing which is fun to rhyme with his name.

My Body, My Baby, Our Safety

by mcmComment Published at 00:2200:221 comments1 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

Just been playing with the header and making banners. Not completely happy with them so I will get more magnificent ideas in time. I am sure! Or I will leave that up to other more tech savvy and talented with their wonderous blogs.
I like the photos though. My awesome 4 and their gorgeous smiles which make me think things are good in our lives right now, that even though I make mistakes, I am doing alright as a mother.
I have survived this year - ie. the year after J's birth and no PND or depression to speak of. I didn't think it possible. I do attribute this to his birth or more to the point, taking responsibility for my body, my baby, our safety. It was safe for me because I chose it knowing what was needed. What isn't safe is being devoid of choice, of being disrespected.
Which brings me to this grab of videos from the Canberra Rally. Nothing special to most but they are from my view. Rain, babies and passionate people.

J spent most of yesterday evening, getting up to stand then take a few steps at a time. He was quite impressed and delighted with himself. He also stands up to dance. His balance is improving all the time.
His sister and brothers are in awe of their baby brother growing up. We all are.

He is wearing his new toddler sized singlet made from beautiful Debbie Bliss Fair Trade eco cotton in purple. It barely (if ever) splits and its so soft. I would love some more.

One week

by mcmComment Published at 19:4819:480 comments0 comments10 Visits10 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

In one week my littlest boy will be one year old. This time last year I was (over)due to have my forth child. I then had 5 days of prelabour before my son arrived into my arms while my older children slept in their rooms and my husband sat beside me near our birth pool.

We had a warm day here in Melbourne where it was 28 degrees. I started to think about making some shorties for J. After a failed attempt in another colourway of Malabrigo, I used Noro Kureyon for the body and added Malabrigo for the waist, gusset and legs.

My boy rarely stops smiling, which is lovely. He has a sci fi head when he's upset. His forehead reminds us of Star Trek namely the Klingon.

Back to Melbourne

by mcmComment Published at 00:0100:012 comments2 comments15 Visits15 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

We headed back in the late afternoon on Monday with hubby not too keen on returning. We took our time. J was still not very happy with being in the car. He slept a little, cried and shreiked so we breaked often. Of course J being very happy to get out of the car seat as if he never was upset!

We had dinner in Albury which was very salty and unpleasant.

We stayed at a place where hubby unintentionally broke the flowerpot with the van. The bed was small and very uncomfortable and sleep was barely possible with J keeping us up for almost 2 hours in the early morning. This is not like him at all.
We filled up on the continental breakfast and headed slowly back to Melbourne.

In Benalla we had another salty lunch and had a long break there.

Thankfully J slept better on the way home. Finally got home in the late afternoon.

Parliament House

We took the opportunity to visit Parliament House after the Rally. We have never been before.
We sat in the South gallery of the House of Representatives sitting. My husband I think surprised himself with how much he enjoyed watching the ministers and prime minister talk. I found it interesting also. They were discussing whether we were in a recession or if we over it and also about school funding.
Its not every day I breastfeed while Julia Gillard looks up at me and Tracy Bartram by my side!

Roadtrip to the Nation's Capital

We left Melbourne in the morning at about 8am on Sunday. My sisiter in law happily cared for the big kids and for that I am grateful. My husband drove and I occupied the less than impressed J.

We stopped in Albury presumably for lunch but we weren't very hungry so just had cuddles and walk around then headed to Holbrook for another break.

We had a late lunch in Yass and before long we were in Canberra. We were actually staying on the border.

We had a Father's Day dinner in Canberra. Quick and polite and nice food.

The latex matress was nice to sleep on and we had a single and double bed together for more space.
It was raining on Monday but we attended the Rally (other blog post) without a second thought for the wet.
