Am I a Bad Mum....

by michelleiComment Published at 08:2708:279 comments9 comments530 Visits530 VisitsReport

Miss Cheeky Chops aka Olivia is nearly two and I’m not quite sure as to what to do, so tonight after talking to my best friend, I’ve decided on a course of action.

I have been worried about three things:

1. Usage of the dummy

2. Still having a bottle of milk 3x a day

3. Moving from the cot to a big girl’s bed.

Tonight I have hidden all of Miss Cheeky Chop’s dummies except two – the one in her mouth lol and a fresh one for the morning. Normally I keep them if the fridge (so good for sore swollen gums) and she gets a fresh one when ever she feels like it. No more. Gone.

We will be going to Adelaide in two weeks for a holiday and I will also be buying her a toddler bed form Ikea. I am then having the bed sent to Darwin and hubby will take apart the cot and set up the new bed. So that is another thing organised.

Lastly on my list (for the moment anyway ;)) is how to get rid of the bottle? My friend has suggested that I wait until I am back from Adelaide and on the first day refuse her bottle and only give it to her at bed time, that way she will associate the bottle (good/nice) with the new bed to make the change less traumatic.

I would appreciate any comments.

Thank you from a bad mum.

Visitors.........

We get all sort of visitors to our gardens, this one was happy to be snapped.
My grandma always said 'the more animals that visit your garden the healthier it is.'
I like to think so.
What has visited your garden recently?

Pain is good........

by michelleiComment Published at 06:3406:340 comments0 comments109 Visits109 VisitsReport
My poor Miss Cheeky Chops is currently trying to cut all four of her back molars. They have all pierced through, but are at different stages of eruption. The Bonjela is getting a work out this weekend, along with the Hyland's Teething Relief.

Of course this means that her temper is short and anything can cause a fit of screaming. It's so hard for her to understand that we need teeth, but at the same time they are just so painful erupting.

As for Hubby he is as sick as a dog. He works such long hours usually 4:30/5:00 start and home at 6:15/6:30. In all the time I have known him (9 years) I have never seen him take a sick day. He has been home since Thursday & finally went to the doctor today. It turns out he has a viral infection, bronchitis and now asthma - do you think this could be related to over working & smoking?

So my house is fun, Hubby wants to be left alone, peace and quite and to be well. Olivia wants to see her dad, suck on the tube of Bonjela and for nothing to upset her.

Pain is good........Teeth are a necessity and bodies need rest.

                                                 Great combo!!

Till our next installment- take care and be well, Michelle

What a sad day today.....

First of all today as I sat down to eat my lunch I heard that Steve Irwin had died in a freak stingray attack.

Now  I have just found out that Colin Thiele a popular author has died as well. I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man in primary school.

("Beyond Storm Boy, Colin actually wrote more than 100 books, not just for children but in the area of history, poetry, he did biographies, he wrote about the environment, he was a very committed environmentalist," )

How do we cope with grief?
What stops you in your tracks?

I had the very sad experience of my Grandpa dying earlier this year. He was more of a father figure to me.
I have not cried at all for my loss as I know that he is in a better place and free from pain. I had the oppotunity of presenting to him his great grand daughter and the joy in his eyes was enough for me. I also got to be a paul (?) bearer and to read the obituary at his funeral. I even helped choose the music:

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

To all those who who lost love ones.......one day we will be together again

Muffins

by michelleiComment Published at 05:3205:320 comments0 comments93 Visits93 VisitsReport

Today was a busy day for me.

I don't usually cook as my husband likes to do it himself, but I do make the muffins for his lunch box.
I try to start when Olivia is asleep as I don't like her being in the kitchen when the oven is on.

Today I waited till hubby got home, so that he could spend some quality time with Miss Cheeky Chops. After a rocky start (temper tantrum) I managed to get about 6x12 muffins cooked.

The only complaint that I got was that the muffins weren't his favourite flavour?!? I made apple, blueberry, choc chip and orange & poppyseed.

What else is a girl supposed to do? Make the supermarkets have a sale on muffins every week? Or better yet try to get them to reduce the price?

Anyway that was my day, a simple pleasure I love doing but don't get the chance to very often - cooking.

Take care and be well, till next time........
Michelle
