This post is from from my other blog here "There are no perfect paths, just roads taken."
I'm so sorry that you're feeling this kind of longing, too, but so thankful that you can put it into words far better than I can. Thank you for sharing this; even though the histories that we get wistful over are different, it's amazingly helpful to hear about other people experiencing the same kinds of things.
Our cultures don't often give us much room to simultaneously miss the past while accepting it as finished - I'm waiting for it to get easier with more practice. |

This post is from from my other blog here Last night when we were starting to "summer-ize" our camper for the season's first camping trip, my husband asked me why I hadn't fixed the loops on the tent that's been sitting out in the basement for nearly a year. I told him, "Honey I barely have time to keep up with normal things I have to do around here like laundry." (Well that and the fact that I didn't know where the spare loops are. Doh!) One of the things I'm really bad about keeping up with is dusting. With all the TV and computer monitors - ...

This post is from from my other blog here Hi Elizabeth,
Discovered your blog a few months ago. We're a homeschool family in RI.
I love this post, and definitely relate to it. Especially in those moments when I'm berating myself for not having a dinner table set with gorgeous place settings, and engaging conversation about the days' events.
But there we are, the 5 of us, spread out over the living room, dinner in hand, enjoying time together (we're usually watching "It Takes a Thief" LOL), and I'm overcome by how blessed I am to have this family.
I know your post wasn't about eating dinner in front of the tv, but ...

This post is from from my other blog here Congrats to both of you! Next year will be easier. Homeschooling is tough! Anyone who tells you otherwise is fibbing. :) We are finishing up our freshman and junior year of high school and yes, I know more now than ever before. I also don't let my kiddos forget that! :) Nevertheless, I am so grateful to have homeschooled my kids all these years. They were tough, but, oh so worth it!

This post is from from my other blog here What an excellent year end summary! I am so glad to hear that homeschooling Bear worked out for the both of you. You did a great job working with him through this first grade - understanding his quirks and not trying to change him to be something else that he isn't to conform to the group.
Congrats, Bear! You did a great job! |

This post is from from my other blog here The parenting experts tell you to model good behavior for your kids. If you want kids who are readers, you should have your nose in a book, subscribe to lots of newspapers and magazines, and read out loud to your children for 20 minutes every night. If you want fit kids, you should model good eating habits, take them for bike rides, and go as a family to swim at the rec center. Well, I've been modeling picking up my clothes, not throwing gum wrappers on the floor, and preparing sandwiches on the kitchen counter. Yet my kids can't find ...
