Wow its been a busy few weeks at my place. And so so soooo productive. Along with the clowning job Ive also become an administrator on a site called "Families of Sex Offenders".
A very very close friend of mine has been working her butt off fighting for the rights of families of sex offenders, trying to get more support services in place. What Australian authorities fail to realise is that with the incaceration of offenders, all their friends and families are often overlooked in the process, and noone knows how to deal with them. Victims and offenders are usually overwhelmed with support services trying to make life easier, but what happens to the offender's mum or dad, husband or wife, or their children or best friends? One minute they're there, and the next minute they're behind bars. And the people they have left behind are just supposed to move on with their lives and act as if nothing has happened?
Now I'm in no way trying to put offenders up on a pedestal, but I do agree that something needs to be done. This is where my friend comes in.
She has recently been run off her feet with media interviews (if interested ask me to email you the audio clip of an interview on ABC radio's Life Matters), and meetings with various organisations to get FOSO up and running.
If you or someone you know has been affected by this, please head to FOSO and register with the online forum and let some of your pain and suffering out by speaking to some other members who have been through the same process. It is a free, non-profit website, which has only just begun, but believe me the services it is offering are unbelievable.
