My Recent Gifts

Poor mountainmom has no gifts, brighten up their day with a present.

Me and My Family

Hi,
I am a brand-new first time mom. Our adopted son, Holden Gabriel, was born April 26th, 2007. He is the joy of our lives and after trying to conceive on our own for seven years, we realized what a gift adoption was. The infertiity path was a long and painful one but Holden was the sun after the storm. It was all worth it to have him in our lives. It is an open adoption and we adore Holden's birth mom and birth grandmother.

We live in Denver after 8 years of living in the mountains of Aspen, Colorado. I am a graphic artist with my own business, and my husband is a financial planner. I work from home and since Holden was born I have slowed business way down, though I love what I do, I love being a mom the most!

We are a very active couple and enjoy skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, kayaking and whatever takes us close to nature. I like to do interior design as well, and my husband is a great partner in everything we do.

We have two cats, Dune & Tripod (yes 3-legged) and live in the 'burbs of Denver at the moment. We hope to move back up to the mountains in the next few years. Since motherhood is new to me, I don't yet have a lot of mommy friends w/ infants Holden's age because most of my friends started families earlier and now have children ranging from 3-14!! It is good to be a member of this community and learn alot of helpful advice and have good mommy-friend support out there!

Cheers,
Lisa

SOS: Goat Milk Formula

SOS: Goat Milk Formula
Hi,
I am a new mom of an 8-week old adopted son, our first, who is rashing out with scalded skin/eczema-like reaction all over his body every time he drinks his formula. I've tried 6 brands: Enfamil, Enfamil Nutramigen, Earth's Best, Parent's Choice and Nestle Good start.  He won't drink soy and also I've read that soy has issues with too many estrogens, esp. for a boy. My adoption agent suggested goat's milk and I went and got some fresh pasteurized goat's milk and he does great on it..rash clears. Only problem is that after doing much research I've come to understand that plain goat's milk isn't enough: it is deficient in Iron, Folic Acid and B12. Doctors in the USA are against goat's milk and no one sells or makes a goat's milk formula here. I searched desperately online and found KariCare by Nutricia Goat Starter Formula, the answer to my prayers, being that it is fortified with what goat's milk is deficient in, safe, standardized, etc. and many who have babies with similar problems seem to have success. I feel desperate to get this product for my son; my intuition just tells me this is the answer, seeing how well he does on organic fresh pasteurized goat's milk. I feel kind of demonized for wanting to feed him goat's milk or goat milk based formula here in the USA, it just is not done. The pediatricians and mainstream medical and social community guide a new mom to the moneymakers like Enfamil. I am desperate, I have tried so many solutions, including expensive Enfamil hypoallergenic Nutramigen and nothing makes his rash stop but goat's milk. I am too afraid to feed him any more fresh goat's milk so I feed him Nutramigen which my pediatrician recommended and cry as I watch his skin turn red and scalded, then it turns into a sunburn-like affair, then next day dry and leathery and then peels/flakes.
Can anyone help me get this product in the USA? Help me get it purchased and shipped here? I know I might need a prescription from my pediatrician. I think I can get that. But how can i get it purchased and shipped to me? I can't find online purchase site? I am getting devastated and desperate that I can't solve this for my child. Does anyone have a place I can go to purchase this? I am willing to call overseas to a store or send a prescription to the right place but I wonder if international WHO code would even allow that? Does anyone have a solution ? I would be so grateful...thanks!
