As my nickname suggests I am a mum down here in Australia, I live in Albury/Wodonga on the NSW VIC border with my fiance and 3 children. Two girls aged 8 and 9 from a previous relationship and our new baby boy who is 7 weeks old.
I had my first daughter when i was 16 years old and she was followed by another girl when i was 17, so i know a little about being a young mum. Now i am 26 and have a new baby boy, not only is it different being a little older this time around -( i don't feel as though i have to prove myself to everyone, and i don't receive strange looks and hurtful comments from complete strangers in the street ) it is also very different having a BOY!
Having had my son not long ago i was surprised at just how many of the little things i had forgotten when it comes to caring for newborn babies....well it has been 8 years after all!!
I have only just discovered the Minti website through the That's Life magazine, while i was pregnant i was looking for a site just like this but could not find a suitable one.
I look forward to getting real advice from other parents and hopefully i'll be able to give some advice from my own experiences as a mother.
Are there any other Minti members that live nearby? Would love to chat with you!

Shannon is my first born, she is nearly ten, going on sixteen, she drives me crazy but i love her to bits.

My second child, she is 15 months younger than Shannon, thinks she's a supermodel and loves to strut her stuff...

Our new addition, born this year in February, he is an absolute delight and adored by his big ... |

I must apologize for not keeping up with my blog, i couldn't even keep a diary as a kid! I do however check the minit Q&A daily and submit my fair share of questions. Scott is now 4 and a half months old and is an absolute delight! He is such a happy baby, i really feel for those mums and dads whose babies keep them up all night and keep them stressed during the day. Scott certainly doesn't sleep through the night though - he is up evey 3-4 hours a night and feeds every 2 - 3 hours during the day but atleast after his night feeds he goes straight back to sleep when i put him down!
He has become much more co ordinated with his hands, holding toys putting them in his mouth and reaching out for things, also using his feet to kick away...he loves to bounce himself up and down when i stand him up, i think he will love a jolly jumper when he is a bit bigger.
Breastfeeding is going really well, i wish i could have done it with my girls . However now he is easily distracted and tries to turn his head around and look at something while he is still feeding..OUCH and he will stop sucking for a bit and try to have a conversation with me or his hands or my shirt or whatever he's looking at with me still in his mouth - although very cute, also quite painful!!!
Thinking of joining a play group, might ask the other minti mums in Q&A at what age they took their bub along to playgroup...infact i might just do that now...
Hope everyone is well and their young ones are behaving themselves.... |

Arggghh! Turns out i do have thrush on my breasts and it is so much more painful than the mastitis was, at feed time it feels like he is sucking my skin off. Gross i know. I was in pain all last night and could hardly sleep, at 3am i was so close to making up a bottle of formula for bub. I'm glad i didn't as it seems to have eased a little today, not alot but i do feel the difference. Thanks to everyone for the advice after i posted my question, sometimes you just need to be reassured that you are doing the right thing and that you're not the only one going through these little problems we all have.
I can't believe my boy is now 9 weeks old, the years are going to fly by like they did with the girls... he is now smiling all the time especially when the nappy comes off (typical male) and he is so close to letting out a little giggle, can't wait for that! He is such an easy baby i almost feel guilty for not having had a sleepless night or a screaming baby to deal with, lucky me the girls were easy babies too. It's only now that they are nearly 9 and nearly 10 that they are becoming difficult at times.
Thankgod tomorrow is Saturday i can go back to bed after the morning feed and not have to get kids off to school...just imagine staying in bed ALL day.....wouldn't that be nice........ |

So much for my granny nap yesterday it just didn't happen, and today i wont have time :-( Don't you hate it when you plan to get everything done in the morning so you can have a little rest in the afternoon before the terrors get home from school and somethingcomes up?
I think i have discovered why bub has been sooo grumpy these past few days, the pharmicist tells me the strong medication i am taking for the mastitis is most likely upsetting his stomach and it has also given him thrush in his mouth. The pharmicist has given me some drops called Mycostatin to put in bubs mouth but i'm a little cautious in giving it to him as i think it is an adult preparation, maybe that doesn't matter i'm not sure however i am seeing the midwife later today so i will discuss it with her before i do anything...the pharmicisit talso tells me that i would most likely have thrush on my breasts and therefore bub and i keep reinfecting eachother, what a pain in the ass. It just seems to be one thing after another...Hopefully when it is all cleared up he will be back to his happy self again. |

Yay! Mastitis seems to be going away, no more pain. Breastfeeding is supposed to be so natural so why then does it come with so many difficulties? Bub has seemed to be somewhat unsettled last night and today, not sleeping aswel as he has been and being grumpy while he is awake, not sure what's going on.
I posted a question earlier today about the tip of his little fella being blue (he has been circumcised) but only received one comment, thankyou by the way, but i am wondering if circumcision is a touchy subject that no one want's get in on. I think that i will just try to contact the surgeon tomorrow and ask him about it...i'm sure he will be thrilled to get a call on a sunday .
School goes back for the other two on monday, thank god, for them that is, they have been sooooo bored and driving eachother crazy- they miss their friends and are sick of being stuck at home with mum all day. The best part for me when they go back to school is that i will be able to have a granny nap during the day when bubs is asleep, i'm looking forward to that BIG TIME!
That's all for now...... |
