Today I went to a fundraisng lunch at the CWA (Country Women's Association). The funds were being raised for the newly established Collie branch of the Friends of the RSPCA (Royal Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Two ladies from the RSPCA gave a short talk about the organisation.
There was one table with 3 elderly ladies on it and they talked their way through most of the speech. Some peoples manners don't improve with age! I wasn't the only one getting annoyed I could see other people turning around to look at them.
It reminded me of once at uni when I ran late for an 8 o'clock lecture and had to sit up near the back. I usually sat towards the front so I could read the board without wearing my glasses. There was a group of people talking loudly nearby but not close enough for me to ask them to 'be quiet'. I was getting really annoyed because I couldn't focus on what the lecturer had to say and human biology takes a bit of concentration - at least for me.
When the lecturer asked if anyone had any questions I put my hand up and asked him if he could speak up because I couldn't hear him over his competition. He went to town on them. People came up to me afterwards and thanked me because they too were having trouble hearing the lecturer. When you fight peak hour traffic and then fight for a parking space at uni the last thing you need is to not hear the lecture.
I nearly did it again today but decided to just be the 'nice quiet pregnant lady' rather than the 'bitch'. Time and place I guess or maybe I am just mellowing out in my old age.
Haydon set up the baby's cot this morning - it was given to us by my brother as his kids have outgrown it. At one stage we thought we had lost one of the brackets and the whole thing would be unusable. Luckily Haydon found the bit in the shed.
Then Haydon set up our new bassinette that we bought a few weeks ago. The stitching was faulty in one place and the fitted sheets that were supposted to be included were missing. I rang the shop and they said to just bring it back and they will exchange it for another one.
This afternoon I had a nap and planted out some more Kangaroo Paws in the garden bed that Haydon weeded yesterday. I hope the snails don't get them. Snails love kangaroo paws I have found. |
