My toyboy, Haydon turns 30 tomorrow

Comment Published at 01:2701:273 comments3 comments113 Visits113 VisitsReport

My toyboy  Haydon turns 30 tomorrow. He is at work until 9:30 tonight and then on-call overnight until 7 am and then he starts work at 1pm tomorrow. No special dinners for two. I am going to cook a mini kangaroo roast tonight so that I can give him a home cooked meal to take for dinner tomorrow night. I also plan on making him an apple crumble to go with it. Tomorrow I can either cook him pancakes or bacon and eggs with mushrooms for breakfast. Blast I forgot to get mapel syrup at the shop just then.

Haydon may be younger than me but I often say he is the mature one in the relationship. He has done so many amazing things. Before he smashed his ankle in a climbing accident he used to work doing vertical rescue. He would work winter in the US and then return home to New Zealand for their winter. He was a 10 year veteran of the New Zealand Mountain safety council when he was 26. When he was in high school he used to get picked up by the rescue chopper to help search for people lost in the mountains. One of the most amazing things about his accomplishments is that from the time he was two Haydon had severe epilepsy up until December last year when he had brain surgery (that story was another earlier blog -11 October Wedding Anniversary- what a year).

Now he is a nurse in a small country town in Western Australia. When I met him nearly three years ago he had just graduated (mature age student) and had come to Merredin on the nursing grad program as part of his plan to get into flight nursing in Canada. I did say we could follow the dream but he says that the shifts etc would not be suitable for a family man and that now he has the oportunity to have a family that is what he would prefer to do.

I know he is happy because I can see it but I keep wondering what such an amazing man sees in me.

But getting back to the birthday. The only thing he said he wanted for his birthday was hiking boots. I can't get them without him to try them on. We are in the process of building a big shed which will have workshop space for him so he said that is his present.

He is not a big crowd kind of a guy and hates suprises so no big party plans. We don't know many people in Collie yet anyway.

I am making him a toblerone cheesecake to take to work for tomorrow. I just found the recipe on the cream cheese packet a the supermarket, I have never made cheesecake before so wish me luck. I am hoping to get some energy this afternoon to make some pumpkin scones and do some other baking.

By 11 oclock this morning I was already back on the bed because I felt tired and unwell. I slept for two hours to get the energy to go down and do the shopping. I am really going to have to pace myself this afternoon. Haydon gave me my second weekly iron injection this morning. This pregnancy is really taking it out of me.

Wish happy birthday
Wish happy birthday for Haydon. Seem you're doing a great job to make special things for his birthday. I always thought birthday present for man is a bit harder than for woman, most of the time I just did extra special attentions like you do, making breakfast in bed or something, and the present I'd let him pick. The one I bought would be from the kids.
Btw, take care yourself too. I know everything seem a bit harder when you're pregnant, specially with this hot weather.

Wish happy birthday

Thanks, I kind of feel funny about not having a present for him but there was nothing he said he wanted that I could go out and buy. Guess I am making his presents - breakfast, baby, birthday cake etc

So far it has not got hot enough down here to turn on the air con. I have had in on a few times in the car though. Our house stays reasonably cool so that has not been a problem.

I don't know about your man, but mine and my brothers (if I had chat with them), they said men would appreciate more the attentions from their wife compare to materials. The thoughts and effort of us to make them happy are more that things we bought from shop.
