My experience with World Vision.

Comment Published at 17:4717:477 comments7 comments90 Visits90 VisitsReport

Three Years ago, almost exactly, i had this nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach, i wanted to sponser a child. It had been something i wanted to do for a long time, but of course there was always "excuses" not to do it. When i got this "nagging" feeling i knew that it was something we HAD to do. We were more financially stable, and it was going to be well worth it.

A week had gone by since our decsion, and i still had not rung up any companies. I walked to the supermarket and there standing at the door was a table with a huge spread of children, and i knew i couldn't wait any longer.

When the lovely girl stopped me to talk about World Vision, i said YES! straight away, and the look of shock but relief washed over her face. She picked up a young girls pack, age 12, and said would you like to pick your child and i said no. She had picked up a random pack so i knew this girl was for me.

We recieve letters 2-3 times a year, about how she and her family are progressing in life. we get pictures, and drawings.

At the end of 2006 my husband lost his job, we were on the bones of our bums, and i had made the desicion to stop sponsering our girl How could we look after her when we couldnt look after ourselves. That morning i checked my mail, on my way to the bank to stop my automatic payment, and we recieved another letter  from Chandra. I couldn't do it! So that month we made our payment, and just after that we were given a food parcel and some omoney to help us out.

We wont ever stop sponsering our girl, she needs us, and she is apart of our life, even though we may not see or hear from her that often.$40 is a small price to help get rid of poverty.

that is really sweet of you.  I'm sure she appreciates what you are doing for her, her family and her community.

Great story, well done for being so generous when you didn't even know if you would have enough for yourself.  Sometimes we just need to have faith. xox

If we all just helped one child, imagine what that child could do for others.....  We may not be able to stop the world from falling to ruins and maybe we can, but if we can't at least we can make it a better place for people to live in in the mean time...
