Fires in Churchill

Comment Published at 02:1202:1223 comments23 comments106 Visits106 VisitsReport

on the news just now they said that there is a wind change and it will push the fires back into Churchill (gippsland)

lucky they have closed the school for tomorrow, I was going to keep Aaron home anyway!

I also found out today that when the year 7's started school this week they didnt run them through the fire plan there going to get a not so nice phone call from me on Wednesday, Aaron has no idea where to go if a fire starts in the school of if the bush fire reaches the school :(

Please pray that this ends soon and we dont loose any more lives...

Thinking of you hun.  Keep safe, and if it comes to it, don't stay to protect the house, take what's important and get out of there.

Re: Fires in Churchill

I've just written a letter to Aidan's school for him to take with him in the morning as he was quite dismayed that they didn't even take the time to talk to the students about it all, least of all do a fire drill. We are no where near any such threat in any way at all, but all children across the country are being exposed to the story as it is recieving such public attention, and many are worried, confused and afraid and need to talk about it and feel safe in their schools and homes even if they aren't at any risk! Young children don't have the same comprehension of distance and threat that we adults do and need to know what is going on and that they are safe no matter where they live.

Bugger the house and possessions hunni, if it turns your way, get your family out of there immediately! All material possessions can be replaced and even ones that can't are not as important as the safety of your family. Too many people have tried to stay behind to save their homes and lost their lives in doing so, I do not want to learn you did to!

Re: Fires in Churchill

I could not give a stuff about house its rented, and as for our possessions I have Aaron's baby photos in the car, a bag with clothes and a tin of dog food (for the dog not the children lol) and thats what Ill take if i need.

as for the school Mum BIL went to Boolarra primary last week to talk to the children, that was in the middle of the gippsland fires, if he can find the time while fighting fires than the school can dam well find the time to explain a simple fire plan to MY son. so angry!!!

Re: Fires in Churchill

Glad to see you online and ok.  Been thinking of you. And what a horror  that they didn't do the fire plan!  How insane is that.  I would be giving that school a massive tongue lashing!

he is not going back until they tell me when they are doing a drill, then I will be there to see it being done.

I couldnt live with myself if anything happened to him and I didnt do anything.

Re: Fires in Churchill

Anita, my thoughts and prayers are with you all, lets hope they are wrong with their weather forecast. Stay safe and I wouldn't be sending Aaron to school  either  until things get better and the school lifts their game with the fire drill.

Re: Fires in Churchill

everything helps, I have a big box of Katelyn's clothes to donate to.

the way I look at it is if you give money people will need to go out to shops to buy clothes, how are they going to get out when the shops are burnt to the ground as are their cars, it a very kind thing to do you should be very proud of yourself XXX
