I'm so surprised, in fact I am gobsmacked.

Pleasantly surprised to say the very least.

I've had a reply already, in fact a very nice reply, basically he said he has no problem whatsoever with the boys travelling to Iceland in fact even going so far as to wish as all a lovely time, has asked for confirmation of the dates we are going which I am happy to give him.

I am also able to take the boys to Iceland anytime, again he would appreciate any further dates we go as notice, I am more than happy to do this too.

Regarding Thomas trip to France, again very happy, glad to hear Thomas wants to further his education also asked if as long as Thomas gives permission I would let him know of Thomas exam results next June!!!!!!!

(Wow asking Thomas permission?????)

He asked me to pass on his love to both boys, which I have done, Thomas didn't want to know, Daniel smiled but said he still doesn't want to see him, I told him thats fine, your dad isn't putting any pressure on you. Its completely your choice, Daniel smiled again!!

I am completely stunned, all that worry for nothing

I'm guessing there are two possibilities for this outcome

a) He is playing a clever game and is biding his time to catch me off guard

b) He really does love his sons and so is willing to step back and is prepared to let them call the shots now so he may one day have a relationship with them in the future.

In my opinion, I don't trust him at all, I've seen him shed too many layers of personna to not underestimate his capabilities but for now I am happy to accept that its reason b) and he is finally thinking of what is best for his sons

What a surprise and great news from your Ex especially how civil he seems to be behaving. Hopefully he is not going to pull any tricks on you later on and that he truely does what to make peace and have a relationship with your kids later on in the future. Take care, thinking of you....

Wonderful news Helen so quick to reply and with only good news...you must like a load has been lifted off your shoulders.

Maybe he is wanting the same as yourself......eventually wanting a relationship with his boys....like you want a relationship with your long lost son. I know you don't trust him for what he has put you and your boys through and have every right not to but as we get older, we (most) see life and relations through different eyes.

Maybe not having his boys involved in his life, he is realising what he is missing out on, exactly like you missing out being involved with your son's life.....times might be changing for you both, one can only hope!

A bit harsh? Yup. Here you are seeing so much from one civil response. Because you think that way. If he proves himself ten fold over I will harshly ask for one more to protect my friend. I know you will take your time and see all, just not a good time to let your guard down, care about you and one way to you is through your kiddies.

Phew, great after all that stress that he gave you the "right" answer. Lets assume it's b. so you all enjoy your holiday, but a. does seem likely in the fullness of time.

So, is TJ going on a Battlefields Holiday? I went on one when I was 13 - it was fabulous! It helped my interest that my grandad fought in the Somme. Is it an organised tour - they're best? You're going to tell me that it's Geography now, arent you ?
