I did NOT enjoy yesterday !!!!!!!
Dad drove me to the hospital, had my pre appointment checks, was thrilled to notice that I am now able to see the third row of letters on the eye chart with my left eye !!!! Last time I could only see the top letter of the chart !!! Amazing !!!!
Was then given eye drops in my right eye to dilate the pupil then we waited again for my laser surgery appointment. It wasn't long before I was called in, it lasted over an hour !!!! I was only expecting 30 minutes!!!!
Following another check up to confirm I did need the laser procedure, the opthalmologist discovered yet another three holes forming on my right retina, which if untreated would have caused another detachment on my right eye this time!!!!!!!! What is going on??????
He put some drops in my eye to numb the eye and whilst we waited we chatted through the original operation back in January 4th 2009. He said it was clearly a bit of an emergency, I was saying that I was only just beginning to take in how serious it actually was, he told me it was VERY serious, On my notes it refers to the fact that the Surgeon had no option and nothing to lose but to operate however at the time he operated, he had written in my notes that due to the extent of the damage it was unlikely I would get full vision or even significant vision returning to that eye!!!!!! Scary !!!!! But I believe I am a miracle because my sight is returning better and better everyday still !!!!!
The laser process was something I pray never gets repeated as it was absolutely horrible. The pain was piercing, I actually jumped out of the seat a few times as the laser must have hit a nerve, even now almost 24 hours later, my eye still feels a little on fire and I have a sharp headache from the eyeball through to the back of my head.
No more please !!!!!!! ;-)
I did however seem to laugh all the way through the appointment, the dr must have thought I was a crazy lady as it was obviously hurting me. I would be bouncing out of my seat each time the laser hit the nerve. He told me at the beginning that at worse I would feel a pinching from the laser, as I flinched he said that was the pinching he had referred to, I told him it wasn't pinching at all it was an electric shock through my eye!!!!!!
I also had to keep my left eye open too so I could fix my vision in the right direction, but my left eye, had a complete will of its own and kept closing!!!!! Trouble is I then had to force it open which meant that my right eye with the lens caps etc inserted in my eye would graze across the plastic ARGH!!!!!!! In the end the opthalmologist told me he had sealed 99% of the damaged retina and there was going to be heavy permanent scarring, he was happy with what he had done so to leave the last tiny 1% which was in a difficult and particularly sore area, take a look in 2 weeks and see if I need more treatment, I PRAY NOT!!!! In all honesty I found the actual surgery in January less painful and much less stressful.
Apart from a very sore eye and a throbbing head, I feel great. I do believe in the power of prayer and I know a lot of prayers have been said for me. Clearly even the surgeons weren't expecting the recovery I have made, so I thank everyone for the prayers, they have obviously been extremely effective.
