Kids...are we insane???

Comment Published at 00:2200:2213 comments13 comments28 Visits28 VisitsReport

Wednesday my eldest Dave jumped off the stage at school while rehearsing for the Musical. He came home hobbling. By Thursday he had a great technicolour bruise around the little toe. This morning the bruise had extended up the side of the foot. And he whinged and wined like a little baby about it. I figured it wasn't broken, as I could still move the toe and the surrounds. He of course thought different and being a male of the very advanced age of 16, knows everything!!

He rang me at work today to say that he was having trouble walking, and could he come home. I figured if it was that bad you can go to the doctor. So I made an appointment at the docs, rang the school to authorise him to leave, and rang him to tell him the appt time. Of course the big baby didn't want to go on his own...are you gonna meet me there Mum?

OK so I got all the morning teas and lunches done, decided they could have biscuits for afternoon tea, and left to meet him there. The doc looked at it, sent him for xrays, got back and had to wait for the doc to come back from lunch, to find out THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS FOOT!!!!!!!!!!

So that topped off a really shitty day. I didn't get much sleep last night as I am coughing terribly at the moment and it means I can't lie down. So I slept in the arm chair in the lounge room. Then Connor decides he doesn't want to go to school - tough luck bub - Alex has problems with his bike, but will ride alongside Dave so if there is a problem he can fix it. Left for work and to drop Connor off on the way, to get a phone call to say that Alex's bike is not ridable so he will walk to school but Dave will let them know he will be late. Now it is approx 5 kilometres to school, and this generally takes him and hour to walk it. Not happy. So I go back to the house to find out he hasn't even left yet, pick him up and drop him at the bus stop after scrounging for bus fare.

So hopefully with the cough medicine I have bought, I can convince myself that it is working, and stop coughing for long enough to get to sleep for a couple of hours. I will try anyway.

Buy some zink caplets.  Cut them in half, and put one half way at the back of the tongue.  Just let it dissolve and don't drink or eat anything for 30 minutes.  It will help heal, cold, sinus, and cough.

Hi honey,

WOW - what a day . . You know it never ceases to amaze me just how much the bigger kids will complain about a simple bruise . . Trust me when I say that its not just a boy thing . . My eldest was exactly the same, mind you all that changed when she had to start paying for her own doctor appointments. Now all I hear is; it's cool, just a mark, I'll get over it . ..  GRRRR

As for your cough, poor you honey . ..  Try buying some Lemsip MEDIC room spray . . It's great and it helps heaps with coughs and colds . . I use it instead of a vaporizer and my kids seem to recover so much quicker . .

I hope you get better soon and I certainly hope that your days improve soon . . .

Cheers Kellz

What is it with the Male of the species, my husband is very similar, one small injury and you would think an amputation has taken place. Our girls on the other hand love to tell folks of how any injuries happen, if someone asks if it hurts, they look at said person as if that is not the point.LOL. Hope your young man is healed soon. Best wishes for a better few days for you and hope that cough takes wings and scarpers soon.

Luv Winnie.xxxx

Boys hey, biggest sooks at times! Thankfully, I've only got girls!

And yeah, after the 1st child, having any more is pure insanity!  So where does that put me on the meter?

Re: Kids...are we insane???

You'd be so jealous of my parents then. Tell your boy I said he's a wimp! pmsl

My brother broke his toe at the age of 14, and not only did he keep walking on it - and he walked everywhere - he also hid the limp from his instructor and sparred and got his black belt a week later and didn't flinch once. Of course after he was awarded his belt he limped away and curled up in a ball on a chair and held his foot with a shocking grimmace across his face, but he didn't whinge about it.

I broke my toe and kept walking on it - though admittedly I did limp - when I was 12 years old. I didn't even know it was broken, I just thought it was a bit swollen and bruised - until I tore my ankle apart when I was 16 and had my foot x-rayed and the calcium deposits on my toe gave away that it had been broken at some point. I walked on that injury as well.

Maybe my family just breed us tough. LOL

He comes home usually proudly displaying all war wounds, cuts scrapes bruises burns you name it, but his little toe gets hurt, and it's -  Its broken. Bloody sook. He has also been stitched up and glued up I don't remember how many times. We go to the doc and they see blood and immediately get out the stitch kit without asking any more.
