I am so sick and miserable for the last 2 days. I hate winter colds. I could hardly breathe yesterday my nose kept blocking up my windpipe, and coughing and blowing my nose. Just having a whinge this morning. It is moving to my chest, so I will be able to cough it away very soon I hope.

I got Connor's first report card yesterday, and I was so happy for him. He got all high acheivements and even a very high acheivement for his reading. This was really good to know that all the work that we have put in has paid off. Mind you he is a child that can pick things up very quickly and the memory of an elephant, so this will help him. It was certainly a change from what I get with the other two boys.
Theirs will come posted out tomorrow I think, so will get them over the school holidays. It is scary to think how they will go. They are not the hardest working boys on the planet, very lazy students indeed.
School holidays start tomorrow so will have 2 weeks with them all at home, but my mum and dad and one of my aunts are going to take them out some days so I won't have to have them all the time. And I am sure that Dave my eldest will either be at his best mates place or he at mine for most of it. Oh well, only 2 weeks.
Happy holidays for those who may be going away. Leisa |

Connor's class has just finished their Pirates module. It was soo much fun learning Pirate songs for the last two weeks and having treasure maps everywhere around the house. Thursday it culminated in a Pirate Morning, where all the parents were invited up to watch a presentation by the kids as to what they have been doing. It was so funny. Watching all these Prep and Year 1 kids trying to find their vocal chords for public speaking, especially when one on one you can't get them to shut up. They had to tell us about different parts of the unit, from how to draw the maps, to how they built the cardboard pirate ship! Then we had to follow the treasure maps with our children to see who could find the treasure. It was in the long jump pit waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy at the other end of the oval, and we just got there and it had been dug up already and they were heading back. It had bracelets for all the kids that they had made themselves with letter bricks and elastic. It was so gorgeous. This was followed by renditions of pirate songs and a quick morning tea of patty cakes the kids had made. Blech! Not good. But I ate one anyway. I am looking forward to his report card for the semester.
My eldest David, got informed he will be at Deagon Slipways for work experience in July. This is to do with the Boat Building that he wants to get into. So we are lucky that he got there. It will suit him admirably. I just hope that he does what he is told and doesn't back chat. Will have to work on that one with him a while before he goes.
Middle boy ALex, is just the same. Nothing ever seems to go on with him apart from eating and lying. He will be interesting too to see his report card. Me thinks he hasn't been doing his assignments but we will find out.
Hubby is enjoying being back at work now that he has got over the early morning starts and the standing all day. I am enjoying having the house to myself some days.
Anywho, cheerio, toodle pip, til next time Leisa |

Well last night, a friend and I decided to go to the movies to the Movie Marathon and see the Pirates Trilogy. It started at 11.00pm. We got there about 10.15pm, allowing for time to find a carpark, get tickets and get a good seat.
OMG! It was wall to wall teenagers! It was a case of pick the adult. We Lined up to get our tickets and would you believe it, 3 people before we got to the counter, yes thats 3 people, the announcement comes over the PA that Pirates is sold out. Damn.
We couldn't get out of there quick enough. But I was astounded at the number of young teenagers, and I am talking 12 and 13 that were there. I know cause I knew some of them. I know our movie was an 8 hour session, so we wouldn't be finishing until 7 am. These kids are also in the middle of exams so I cannot fathom why they are let out all night.
I would not allow my kids to go, and they asked me, and they are 14 and 15. No way was I going to allow them to stay up all night like that. And the clothes that some of them were wearing...we won't go there, I will be here all morning. I sound like an old grandma! We wore trackies and uggies and jumpers, comfort clothes! Not so some.
Anyway we went to another theatre in the hopes that they were showing it as well but no such luck. So we turned around, came home, opened a bottle of Dusty Hill Liqueur Muskat from the South Burnett, poured a few glasses, cracked open the popcorn and goodies we took to the movies and had ourselves a fine old time.
So lessons learnt: 1. Don't go, stay home enjoy a glass or two of your fave drink, have the snacks etc and save some money; or if you really, really, really want to go 2: Book online and pick up tickets early.
Cheers, til next time, Leisa

It's been a busy week so far, and just as busy for the rest. I have to work in the morning and then the Water Wise plumber is coming to change the shower rose and fix some leaking taps, if I have some. Hubby already had to fix the shower tonight, so don't know if I need any others. Haven't noticed so maybe not. Had my first "official" parent/teacher interview for my youngest this morning and was very pleased to hear how well he is doing in Year 1. Had to find out what areas he is a little not with it yet, but they are little things that we will work on, and as his teacher said, he is ahead in his class anyway so it's not really a problem. Good to hear.
Open Day is on at the High School this week, so we are busy organising things for that. It is also Week of Excellence where the kids from the local primary schools in years 6&7 that are likely to come to our school, get to come along and participate in classes. They really enjoy it, especially the manual arts side as they get to use the equipment and take home something that they have made. This year it is acrylic photo frames. They also experience the IT stuff and Home Ec, and other stuff.
Sunday night a friend and I are thinking of going to an all night movie marathon showing Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2, & 3. Starts at 11 pm and doesn't finish til about 7 am. Should be interesting if we can stay awake. Mind you I hope there are not a lot of young drunken louts at it. Have heard that happens sometimes.
Looking at getting some work during the day. Have to start thinking about it, as bills are getting larger and income is just not coping. Don't really want to work every day, but a little bit will help. Have a couple of options that hopefully will pan out. If not, seriously start looking at job offers in the paper. Not easy. Haven't worked for the last 6 years (except for the high school job 2 mornings a week), and then only hospitality, so not up on office stuff or anything like that. See what happens I suppose.
Cannot believe that almost half the year has gone. Birthdays are fast approaching (4 in 2 months).
Til next time. Leisa |
