My Recent Gifts

Me and My Family

Was wandering around Minti and found this, so here goes!

I am a working mum to two boys, aged 11 & 8, married to Ben for 11 years. We were high school sweethearts, who have weathered a heck of a lot of storms.

My boys are rambunctious and difficult, but oh so rewarding. I never planned on having any children, but surprises happen, and I'm very glad they do! The boys are very smart (but like most boys, dont want to do anything smart), and extremely sporty. Ben and I were both very sporty when we were younger, so I suppose it was natural for the boys to be. They both play AFL, basketball and golf. Brendan, the eldest and also known as Dude, is a fabulous golfer, and Lucas (Chops) will probably play AFL one day - that's if they want to. At the moment they do, though Brendan said to me recently, "Mum, if I cant play AFL or golf professionally, do you think I'll be able to be a professional poker player?" They are definitely not perfect - they have eyes that can travel over mess & filth - it's an amazing feat to witness, and are always driving us up the wall with their arguing!

Ben works for my father building trailers (very awkward at times), and I am a practice manager at a veterinary clinic, after leaving 10 years of retail management. We have a dog Lulu (Lucas' best friend in the whole world!), and a cat I adopted from work about a month after I started called Alice.

Life is very busy, very hectic, but I am surrounded by good friends and sometimes good family, so we are rich in lots of ways.

I will upload some photos when I learn how to do it!

Grumpy old man

Comment Published at 17:2317:237 comments7 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport

I had to pop down to the shop this morning to pick up some milk and bread, and like normal, there was only one person on the checkout. This is a very small local grocery store, and it is very rare for it to get busy enough to have lots of staff manning the tills, but they are around doing other things and available if called.

So anyway, the line this morning was longish - about 8 or so people and they were all only getting a few things each - and of course, there's always one person complaining. This grumpy old man was very loud and swearing quite a bit. Now I am not one to actually say something, but this morning I was feeling brave. So I leaned out of the line and said to him:

"Wow, I wish I had your life."

He turned with a bewildered look.

"If waiting in line for a few minutes is the most you have to complain about, then you must be a very lucky man. I wish that my life was so great and uncomplicated!"

Well that sure put him in his place! And brought smiles to the other shoppers and staff. I must say, I feel very pleased with myself because I succeeded in getting him to be quiet in a nice (although sarcastic) way.

Just thought I'd share!

Something nice

Comment Published at 21:5721:575 comments5 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport

I dropped the boys off to school this morning and had to go in to the front office to do some things. On the way there, one of the not very popular boys tripped over. I was right next to him when he did it and had just opened my mouth to ask him if he was alright, when an older, more popular boy came running over to see if he was ok and help him up. I just melted! It was truly one of the nicest things I have seen in a long time. I try really hard to instill manners and respect into my children, and sometimes feel I am the only mum making an effort, so it made my morning to see this! definitely gave me the warm fuzzies!

Just thought I'd share

PS thanks Kristie for pointing me in the right direction of where to put this - NOT in the advice section! LOL
