tantrums and FAS

Comment Published at 08:3808:388 comments8 comments93 Visits93 VisitsReport

advice anyone??  with meds that no longer work for our 7 year old - he suffers from alcohol and solvent exposure, in addition to a very rare genetic disorger that manifests itself similarly to FAS - i, for the first time in my many years of parenting, find myself without answers.  the tantrums are something that have to be seen to be believed ( i am home from work today because of 'damage' he has inflicted on my body and i am currrently tending to open wounds on my arms and legs).  he is behind in school for obvious reasons and angry at his biological mother for drinking during pregnancy and i seem to bear the brunt of that.  i kept him home from school today because he was exhausted and i couldn't bear to send him 'away' from me.  i know it's not his fault but this has been ongoing and it is sucking the life out of me!  we have tried everything and are becoming somewhat desperate.  ideas anyone???

I'm sorry that I can't help with this one sweetie, but  I hope that things improve for you all soon.  Not nice when you can't do much, but just being there for him says a lot.  You are doing the best you can, as we all are, and I reckon he knows that you care about him.

thanks angie - i'll do some more research when the boys are sleeping tonight.  i've done soooo much reading and have attended so many seminars but there is so little out there on anger issues.  i'll keep looking though!  thanks again.

Re: tantrums and FAS

have her tested!!  there are so many more resources out there when there's a diagnosis!  do yourself a favour and find an FAS specialist so that you know what you're dealing with....  maybe she's just angry at biological mother but it doesn't hurt to rule out FASD!!
