WHAT A DAY

Comment Published at 00:3500:3527 comments27 comments47 Visits47 VisitsReport

I love our Sundays but yesterday was different

With dinner in the oven, table all laid as usual, so we would be all ready to eat at 1 o' clock.. Off we set in the car, we like to be there early, our morning service starts at 10-45am.A friend of ours took the service and was good too. We were home again by12-30pm.

Then the phone rang and I recognised who the caller was and asked about the foot operation he had  this week. However it sounded to me his foot was unimportant, so I was wondering what was coming. Then came the shock. A friend of ours who was at another church, had collapsed and died there in the presence of the congregation, his wife and some of his family were also there, he was in his sixties and a great asset to our community and of course will be sorely missed.

I'm asking for prayer for his lovely wife and family at this time, I know he has gone to a better place but we will all miss him

Thanks

Love Pauline

Re: WHAT A DAY

Oh Pauline, what a terrible shock.  I am so glad he passed in his church surrounded by people that will look out after his poor wife and surrounded by those that cared so much about him.  A quick passing is all we can hope for when there is faith that the better of our existence is waiting.  I hope his family can cope, such a shock for them.   I bet your Grandsons can support that poor boy, I send best wishes that they can get through this very hard time.

Re: WHAT A DAY

How sad and shocking for the family, to loose their loved one so suddenly. It is not a nice thing to witness a passing but it is easier if you know what is coming and have some time to prepare, but suddenly like that, it's a shock for all concerned.

My thoughts go out to the family and yourselves as you all face the loss of your dear friend.

Love , Winnie.xxxx

Re: WHAT A DAY

Thankyou so much Winnie, it was a shock and he was a popular person in our village. I believe he had just welcomed everyone to the morning service, when he collapsed and there was nothing anyone could do for him.

We were al so shocked

Re: WHAT A DAY

so sorry for that person's family and friends. I can't imagine directly witnessing another's death..... I was even spared the death of the one person most important to me, my grandmother. I was able to talk to her on the phone, minutes before she died, but I didn't directly witness it because we were continents away.

It's hard to be faced with our own, or our own loved ones mortality.  I hope you, and your friend's family are coping.

Re: WHAT A DAY

So sorry to hear of your loss. What a horrible shock for his family. I hope in the long run there will be some comfort to have been with him and the lack of illness/suffering. When someone knows for certain where they are going, it is still hard for those left behind. And, sixty-something is still pretty young.

We also had a valuable member of our church collapse yesterday in the service. However, he celebrated his 90th birthday last week and a month before had suffered a heart attack. As far as I know he is not seriously ill. (It distracted our Pastor, who was suffering badly from jetlag already, having just got back from conference in New Zealand, but he managed to collect his thoughts and soldier on!) So we are blessed by Harry's presence among us for a little longer!

Re: WHAT A DAY

Harry is a great age. He got a new lease of life 6 years ago when he was widdowed as his wife had been ill for a long time. Only then did I discover he had been a deacon for decades and was now an honourary one, and a mentor to the younger leaders. And he PRAYS! His late wife used to moan occasionally that they prayed SO much - for everybody! But then there is so much need. He was telling me all about his war service when I was feeding Sophie 3ish years ago. What a generation!
