About Minti

Minti is a virtual place where parents can visit anytime to share and gain valuable advice on parenting. The content is created by members in the form of articles. The articles are tagged, rated and commented on by the community to encourage the integrity and relevancy of the information created. Topics range from pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, babies, early childhood, schooling, tweens, teenage years and beyond. Consider Minti as your global parent support group and expect lots of new features to be constantly added to the site so we can all be better at the most important job in the world: parenting.

Mission

Our mission is to create a "the world's largest parent to parent advice-opedia".

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Hi my name is Rue and I have been a member here for as little as 3 months.  Working full-time and other commitments don’t allow for me to join mothers clubs etc ….So following doctors advice and friends I went online to see if an outlet could be found for me as a parent….. stumbled across Minti….and in this short time:

Friends have been made in my very short time here

Advice has been found in my very short time here

I have been able to give my opinion and advice in Q and A in my very short time here

I have been able to support others in my very short time here

I have been given support by members in my very short time here

My rating has gone from 500 plus to 178 in my very short time here?

There are apparently 20 thousand members here and in my very short time here I become member 178?  How can this be? ….working full – time and other commitments at the moment don’t allow for me to write “advice”> so no points scored there! But im still member 178.   I read as much valuable advice time allows which averages to about 3 a day so not overly many but im still member 178. I have posted questions (a handful) and answered some questions and still my overall ranking is 178.

There are supposedly 20,000 members here and in three months I rise with an overall ranking of 178?  How can this be possible when mintis mission statement reads the following;

Our mission is to create a "the world's largest parent to parent advice-opedia".

20,000 members but so few chat?

Who do we blame??

Well we can’t blame management here as they have given us this great site for all parents! And guess what it’s free!!! And not only in monetary terms but also freewill to be ourselves within the rules here.  So we accept these rules and become members to join in their mission.

The majority of people here are hardly/never on line so we can discount them.  We can also discount the hundreds of browsers a day as they just visit.

The only people left are the long term members and those who chat regularly. Is it safe to say that the total here would be around 250?

And ill stop there as not to point fingers in this blog. Remember im 178 so pavement cracks is included in this number crunching.

So many members so little contribution overall…….don’t others find this sad? I have seen people here write: ‘Mintis member base is growing everyday” and yes it does however how big does it need to get before we have regular contribution from the majority of people here?

There is a problem here and it’s to be found in the so called top 250 members.

Problems that I myself have experienced and some that others have personally told me are the following:

  • lack of respect for other peoples opinions
  • voting gone wrong
  • people flaming one another
  • older people here not leading by example
  • cyber bullying for ones own personal gain

Is it any wonder when people join they decide only after a short while not to log on  and even worse some have left due to intimidation?

We all want to see world peace and we can’t even get along here on a parent to parent website! And of course it’s always the other person who has started it! Please I have seen better thinking at kindergarten.

What you think of this blog is entirely up to you! But please enough of the b/s lets face it we can only blame ourselves and we need to take responsibility and move forward so when Minti states they have 20,000 members it will mean  20,000 members are here partaking.

And if after reading this u want to give me crap go ahead I can take it! Leave your crap here as to leave others alone. I have survived cancer twice …im a survivor and your number one rooter for the underdog!  Words don’t hurt me, what others think of me cant touch me…make my day!! and in turn leaving other bullied people alone!

And by the way if anyone here knows of similar sites where theres no room for b/s let me know as being fulltime parent with ongoing disabilities due to operations from the past is enough for me …..So if anybody knows please send me mail  or leave msg here

Thankyou

Rue

Re: in my short time here

When I was in High School we had an east side cafeteria and a west side one. The east side "cafe" was where all the popluar people ate. A very intimidating crown if you weren't in with them. The west side were the band members, theater, science, and other folks I guess you'd call geeks, nerds, whatever. I hated both sides because of that fact...there was a serious division because the cliques didn't want to meet halfway. They didn't want peace. They just wanted to perpetuate the division. What's worse is that it never just remains with the high school once you graduate. Oh no...it's at the workplace and even on fricken Minti.

I am really glad you said what you said. You showed the truth and how you felt. There is nothing wrong with that. I know we live in a PC world and it seems like the only one's who get through it are the "yes" people. The ones you just tell to do things and they do without question. My first shirt I bought for my daughter while I was pregnant was a shirt that says Always Question Authority. I don't care what anyone else thinks...it never hurts to ask...and maybe you'll strike a nerve with someone who will make a difference. If you don't, then you can at least be glad you made the effort instead of being a part of a crowd of sheeple (I learned that word from a radio jock...referring to how sheep just follow)

If this place gets to be too much drama, I'll be talking to you through another format, because I don't need petty drama. In the meantime GOOD FOR YOU to speak your mind!!

Re: in my short time here

Hi Rue,

I LOVE this blog . . .  One of thie biggest problems that I can see on minti is that older members don't take the time to get to know the newer member and that is so very sad . .  Then you get those that beleive they are better than other and that is even sadder . .

I treat others as I wish to be treated and usually step back from arguemnts etc BUT what I can't handle is to see people bullied or judged without a good enough reason . . How can you judge some-one without really taking the time to get to know them . . .

I have gotton to  know you well through your blogs, emails etc and you are a valued member of Minti in my opinion. You have a lot to offer and you are a breathe of fresh air . . .

HUGS ©Kellz

Re: in my short time here

Very well said Rue.                    Bravo!

I think that there are the same people in the mix of these "situations" each time. They are the members that are on here the most and contribute a lot. I feel the other 1,000 or so members only get on when they need something like advice or answers. The 250 or so that are regulars are in my opinnion the ones who are here to care and help and support friends like you and me as well as contribute and get their own help. But with the ones that are here to stay and on alot comes the rainbow of different opiinions and the cat fights. I can see why so many different personalities get inot a spat from time to time but hopefully when everyone speaks their mind and is HEARD and LISTENED to and has their chance to WRITE, that all will see there are great friendships here and  great help and space for everyone.

Thank you bringing up the point of the admin. Thank goodness we all have this place.

Please dont ever threaten to leave. I do love you and want to continue our new found friendship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your blog and hopefully nasty people will quit picking on each other and enjoy this site as it was intended.
