Let a child be a child

Comment Published at 15:5415:543 comments3 comments19 Visits19 VisitsReport

Most of you would have seen or heard about the 12 year old catwalk model. Who else agrees how disgusting this is? I mean, she is a child! Let her be a child!

She will never have a normal life & will have problems when she grows up. She will have lost her childhood - that will affect her to start with. Then there will be the drugs & alcohol that is well known to be prevelant in the model industry that she will be introduced to way too young. No doubt she will also be introduced to sex too young. It's all part and parcel of the model industry.

Basically, I think her parents should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting their child in such a way. She's a beautiful girl, no doubt about that, but that doesn't mean they should have her look like she's 18 instead of just 12! Whatever happened to the laws about the age a child is allowed to work? In any other job a child has to be 14 to work part-time only! She can still model, but do kid's fashions, or teen fashions, for catalogues. Bring her back to her own age!

Re: Let a child be a child
Wow I'd never heard of this before! I guess it's like child actors though, can anyone stand up and say that being a child actor is a good thing? But if we banned it, who would play the children in movies? I think you're right that she can still model for kids fashions.  We've been looking into activities for children under school age and in our search I found that children can do cheerleading from the age of 3 years!  We had a look at a few different things and from what I saw it looked more like erotic dancing with 3 and 4 year olds than anything else.  We left disgusted.  You just have to look at the older ones that are assisting the littlies and see where they're heading.  When they do competitions it's expected that their hair is done by professionals and their make-up is applied also by professionals and this is only the kindy group, where all the children were under 5!

It's ridiculous, isn't it? They can still do these things, but don't have to be dressed or dolled-up the way they do. It's the same when I've watched kids dancing - little ones around the ages of 5 made up like tarts, with the  moves to match!

I understand what you mean by child actors, too, they also lose a lot of their childhood. But at least they aren't usually made up to look older  - this 12 year old looks like an adult when they do her up! I feel sorry for her.
