Toys

Comment Published at 21:2421:245 comments5 comments15 Visits15 VisitsReport

So we buy and are given all these toys for the kids and what do they play with?  Coat hangers and empty boxes.

I have a cold at the moment and can bearly bring myself to cook meals let alone anything else.  I need the boys to entertain themselves for longer during the day.  But instead of playing with their toys (which we have way too many of) they play with the clean washing I haven't put away, boxes unpacked and packed, coat hangers and are constantly in and out of the pantry for food.  I am having to constantly have arguments over snacks they can and can't have.

The tv works for my 4 yo for a while and only for about 15 minutes at a time with my 2 yo.  So why do we have all these toys if they hardly ever play with them?!  I think I will have to seriously consider reducing the amount of toys again ( I thought I got rid of heaps before we moved).

If anyone reading this has an idea of how to entertain kids when you are sick please share.

Well off I go to see what they are in to now!

Re: Toys

You know i had this problem the girls have so many toys its crazy .Luckily i have a cupboard under chloes bed and we put loads in there mainly ones that they dont play with or dont have batteries.then the rest are split between their rooms . Now they can actually see what toys they have to choose from mountsins of toys can be confussing for them when there isnt so many they find it easier to find something they want to play with . Hope your feeling better soon xx

Re: Toys

Hi,

May I suggest that you put half of their toys away where they can't find them.  If you have a spare room, leave some packing boxes in there plus some old sheets/curtains etc.  I did this with my youngest two & they made lots of "tunnels" etc., using the sheets/curtains as a doorway & to cover up the light, I had to "knock" on the box to ask if I could come in.  They even wanted their meals there & then they wanted to sleep there as well but I put my foot down with that.

My two took their favorite teddy/soft toy in with them & they had soooooooooooo much fun & didn't want to come out!

Krys x

Re: Toys

kids love playing 'sleepovers' (as they call it) but they play it in the lounge room.  I might try and encourage them to play it in the spare room. It is a great idea.  Thanks

Re: Toys

That's the best laugh I've had today.  If only DOCs allowed that sort of thing I might have considered it today!
