Personality type?

Comment Published at 05:2805:282 comments2 comments263 Visits263 VisitsReport
I recently had my personality type profiled. My personality type is just what I naturally prefer, however in other situations I may not use my naturally preferred personality type and use learned behaviours (skills picked up in business for example). There is no wrong or right type, just different types and it allows you to understand why you like things and why you don't, and teaches acceptance of other types...so what am I...?

Introvert - think, mull over internally before talking (which may be a lot, so I may seem like an extrovert)
Sensing (practical) - focuses on actual, facts orientated
Thinking (analytical) - prefers solving problems with logic
Judge (organised) - like things structured

Myers-Briggs profiling just highlights the differences of people, namely in solving problems...it was interesting to read on about children's preferences as explained below...

Relationships with Children
"It is particularly important to apply ethics and values of type relationships with children. Often, in tryin gto meet a childs needs, adults assume that what has worked best for them will work best for the child. Lack of validation or acceptance of one's preferences as a child can lead to low self-esteem, defiance, or an adaptation that creates strain. Using knowledge gained through (MBTI - Myers-Briggs) can identify the type-related needs of children and allow adults to support them in expressing there natural preferences" - quoted from Introduction to Type, 6th Edition (Isabel Briggs Myers)

Interesting, I will have to mull over this. If I am an introvert, if any of my kids are Extroverts I realize I will need to account for this and let them express themselves as an Extrovert...but very interesting, yes?

Hubby and I took this test during our frist year of marriage when we decided to get some counseling. The therapist thought we should take the test in order to understand vbetter how we differed in how we think and know where each of us come from in certain situations. I can;t remember exactly the result was, but I am an introvert as well. The hubby is in the middle of Thinking and Sensing.

This is interesting to know though as it relates to child rearing. I will have to look into this again.

below is a little excerpt...

"The ISTJ will work for long periods of time and put tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which they see as important to fulfilling a goal. However, they will resist putting energy into things which don't make sense to them, or for which they can't see a practical application. They prefer to work alone, but work well in teams when the situation demands it. They like to be accountable for their actions, and enjoy being in positions of authority. The ISTJ has little use for theory or abstract thinking, unless the practical application is clear."
