Helping save a bird with your kid

It was a couple of months ago...after a big storm here and my husband said, 'quick come and see this'...so Codi and I went into his office and out onto the balcony...and wow, a pet bird had gotten out of it's cage. It was a great opportunity to show Codi what a real life bird was close up and also take part in trying to save the bird.

What a fun exercise it was!!! Thank goodness for the big nappy box I just happened to have lying around (lol)...Codi was trying to call the bird and really got into trying to help catch the bird. I explained to him we need to save the bird because it was someone's pet and pet's don't do so well not being at home, and hopefully the vet would help find the owner.

Well after an hour we managed to catch the blue bird and safely take the bird to the vet. We were told by a friend that these type of birds are quite expensive...

A good deed for the day for both Codi and I...

Have you saved anything lately?

No but I saw a lady at the vet today with a joey
Today I took my dogs to the vet for their vacinations.  There was a lady sitting there with a joey. The joey was being really calm and ignoring my dogs (I kept my dogs as far away as I could) and the puppy sitting near them and barking. Anyway the lady went in to see the vet and I heard something about a cage being ready for the joey out the back. When the lady left she was carrying  a very small animal a similar colour to the kangaroo so I jokinging exclaimed "It's shrunk". She laughed and said it was a possum. I guess she must be one of our local wildlife heros that raises orphaned and injured wildlife.

wow, you don't see Joey's lining up everyday to see the vet :0) I hear of local wildlife hero's, but actually witnessing it, sounded interesting...that it does happen and I am sure a lot. I have only saved, apart from this bird, a Wira (bird) and a blue neck lizard, that's as close to wildlife I have gotten :0)
