Dropping day nap

Comment Published at 19:1819:186 comments6 comments123 Visits123 VisitsReport
Codi has started to drop his day nap, which is great as he is happy to go to sleep at bedtime. Less number of books we have to read, songs and us dancing around the room for his entertainment :)

He really enjoyed home day care today. His vocabulary is increasing too. I have to find more shapes to teach him. He already knows;

- hexagon
- octagon
- pentagon
- crescent moon
- star
- triangle
- slanted diamond
- diamond
- half a hexagon

and a whole lot of others.

I still am working on the toilet training though, I suppose all in good time.

I know the feeling.
He will get there eventually.  My five year old has a shocking attention span at school at t he moment, but he's reading and his maths is good too.  I was told today that he would be in the top literacy group if he wasn't so distracted!!! HELP!!!

I asked the teacher what can I do, and she said it's just something that will come to him eventually...just like your son with the toilet training.

You are doing great!
I have to say, when I had my first daughter, she knew everything by 2 years old.  Counting, abc song, shapes, animal sounds.  Now after the fourth child, I tease and say they will have to get their smarts from pre-school.  I feel awlful saying that, but with them so close and with so much homework with the older two and running to swim lessons and all the other nightly routine stuff, I really seem to run out of time to sit with the smaller two to read a ton of stories and teach them all the stuff I taught the first two.  Sounds terrible, I know.  But they do learn in pre-school and are doing just fine.  I suppose I worry about my lacking in teaching them than they worry about it.  Hehe!!

As far as the toilet training, especially with a boy.  Well, lets just say, my 3 girls were potty trained by age 2 or shortly after.   Then there is Willy, he didn't get potty trained til a little over 3 yrs.  I didn't push as hard, but he really wasn't interested and I had two other friends with boys that had a very stressful time pushing their boys to be potty trained.  I took the easy way out and just introduced him and asked him, but let him do it on his time and so less stress, more diapers, but happy potty trained kiddo.  Not to tell you what to do, because had a whole year extra of diapers compared to the girls.  hehe!!  Probably didn't help that he is my last baby and wasn't in a rush to have him grown up yet.  Can you blame me??? Hehe!!

Okay, let you go, I tend to talk a lot.

Take care,

Kristy

Hi
Hey! Happy May Day. I always wondered how you got the little ones to nap, after about nine months it was a gone art in our house. Then all the others followed their brother,I think they didn't want to miss out on anything! Is it not the most amazing thing how children learn? Have you read Chiu? Interesting the boundries he explored and the issues with learning. So how is your new home? I see the U.S. flag in Clay's blog. Interesting also the differences between countries,I found "feeling cluckish" so totally charming. Doesn't it just say it all? Have a great day Rachel, take the best of care,Marg

Hi
you too marg! Interesting I'll have to check Chiu out. I do find Codi to be very quick with his learning, although also trying to expose him to other things like creativity, emotions - more well rounded little person...we are really liking it here, especially since we are amongst other technology passionate people :)
