Halloween

Comment Published at 09:4509:4510 comments10 comments82 Visits82 VisitsReport
Wow, how much fun is all the lead up to Halloween celebrations. It is fun to really experience a new cultural activity. The little man's school is having a festival, a class party and parade. Its perfect as he loves play acting a dog. So yes, I have bought a dog costume - lol

We see pumpkins and decorations everywhere in front of houses. It's like a big event, which also means I need to read up on the history of Halloween and why its celebrated.

Re: Halloween

We didn't really celebrate it in NZ where i grew up but i wish we did.  I love anything to do with ghosts, witches, ghouls, candy!!!  I have one of those jack o lanterns in wax and in the centre you place a candle so it lights up and looks like a real cut out pumpkin.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN to you

Re: Halloween

You are so lucky to celebrate Halloween.  In Sydney, Australia we dont celebrate it.  And I come from a culture where we used to when I was younger and when we moved to Australia we stopped doing it because no one celebrates it.  I work for an American Based company called First Data International and we celebrate anything that is American.  We celebrate July the 4th, we celebrate Halloween, we even celebrate St Patricks Day (Irish), I dont know, dont ask me why....So, I took on the role of decorating the call centre and I make sure every year its decorated with Pumpkins, witches hats, spider webs, etc....it looks awsome.

Re: Halloween
We don't really have it here.  Shops sell some halloween stuff but we don't really have trick or treating or anything like that.  Oh - just remembered you were from Australia so you already know that.  Oops.

Re: Halloween
Glad you are enjoying it.  Halloween is not big our way, though we did get trick or treaters a few years back, but only because they were American tourists staying at the motel we were working at.  I think it is neat, but not all that sugar!  Hehehe.  We tend to give out healthier stuff, but it still tastes good.

Hope you enjoy all the hype that goes with it.  Can be rather tiring, especially being soooo close to christmas.

Re: Halloween
All Hallows Eve. It's base is pagan!!! You are to give offerings to the spirits so they won't rise. It's a huge event with many adults joining in. There for a while it calmed down to almost nothing due to sickos ruining it but the past few years has seen it come full force again. Good fun! Also goes by All Staints Day and was Celtic I believe ,anyway when I was a child it was big too,so fun to see the little ones!

Re: Halloween

Is it as big a celebration in Australia as it is in the US?

Re: Halloween
Not really.  Some of the older kids take it as an excuse to pull (often dangerous) pranks, and generally disturb people eating dinner etc, but other than that....Was big in New Zealand when I was growing up, but apparently not now.

I guess we have enough hols to keep us at home! lol.  I'm glad though, as Chrissie is just around the corner!
