Breastfeeding avatars a no-no at Facebook, but at Minti no problem

Comment Published at 16:5916:597 comments7 comments175 Visits175 VisitsReport

Well, the issue is on again, this time it's at facebook... Minti allows breastfeeding avatars and of course breastfeeding avatars shouldnt contravene a sites Terms and Conditions in relation to pornographic material but if anyone has seen a proper breastfeeding avatar it doesn't (who sees anything anyway with a baby latched on is beyond me)...I think breastfeeding is beautiful and art like so what's wrong with it Facebook, should we be banning pictures of the Statue of David???

Come on Mark Z get with the program, women should have the right to breastfeed in public and we do it fashionably, so why ban mothers from displaying it and show support for breastfeeding in avatars.

Let members have a breastfeeding avatar, and with some non-offensive guidelines that members agree to, why not!!! Apparently, FB has guidelines, or removes if there are complaints by members, but I would be surprised if the photo was a breach of the terms and conditions or was porno in nature.

Re: Breastfeeding avatars a no-no at Facebook, but at Minti no problem

Rencently in the news in some state there is a proposed bill making breastfeeding illigal in public.  Can you believe it.  I breastfead both of my babies (some 16 - 20 years ago) and I did it so discreetly people thought I was simply holding a sleeping baby.  It can be done.  I sat next to a lady in church during that whole time never once did she know I was breastfeeding.  When we talked about breastfeeding and I mentioned that I did she couldn't believe it!  Being discreet is the key.  ex. don't throw a blanket over your head.  Wear shirts untucked, and use easy to unfasten nursing bras.  It worked for me.  Nursing a baby is such a natural thing and those that disagree should live on a farm for a couple of years!  OK, I'll get off my soap box.

So this means that if I am camping out in the wilderness with no one but my family around, I still can't breast fed because I'm in public? Hmmmm, I shall retreat to my tent then.

Note: one definition of the word public is 'open to all'.

So, that means I can share my breastfeeding pics?  Woohoo!  and, I'm going to bookmark this blog so that if I get reported, I can defend myself with evidence to back it up!  I love breastfeeding, and as yet have not been game to share my pics that I am so proud of because other members have had their photos reported in the past.

As for Facebook, well, let's just say, I have way too much fun here to bother!

If they were seriously offended by breasts they'd ban at least half the photos of topless males; man boobs are much less attractive than a little takker getting his nutrition from a natural source... I think they are just female boobaphobic... Which makes them sexist, which means they are discriminating... That's illegal in a lot of countries

With some people it is not the fact that you are bearing your breast in 'public' that they don't like, but the fact that you are breast feeding! I was amazed to discover that many women hate to see other women breastfeeding simply because they either can't do it themselves, or because they feel that you are 'defacing' your body by doing it, feeling that you should bottle feed your child, thus keeping your body in the correct shape!!

Its the same in coffee shops or food courts! I recon a mum should be able to feed a baby wherever she needs to, so long as she's discreet about it, but all this  bad publisity can be very daunting for young or new mums!!

Ok, I shall get down off my soap box now.
