Personality type?

by rachelcookComment Published at 05:2805:282 comments2 comments261 Visits261 VisitsReport
I recently had my personality type profiled. My personality type is just what I naturally prefer, however in other situations I may not use my naturally preferred personality type and use learned behaviours (skills picked up in business for example). There is no wrong or right type, just different types and it allows you to understand why you like things and why you don't, and teaches acceptance of other types...so what am I...?

Introvert - think, mull over internally before talking (which may be a lot, so I may seem like an extrovert)
Sensing (practical) - focuses on actual, facts orientated
Thinking (analytical) - prefers solving problems with logic
Judge (organised) - like things structured

Myers-Briggs profiling just highlights the differences of people, namely in solving problems...it was interesting to read on about children's preferences as explained below...

Relationships with Children
"It is particularly important to apply ethics and values of type relationships with children. Often, in tryin gto meet a childs needs, adults assume that what has worked best for them will work best for the child. Lack of validation or acceptance of one's preferences as a child can lead to low self-esteem, defiance, or an adaptation that creates strain. Using knowledge gained through (MBTI - Myers-Briggs) can identify the type-related needs of children and allow adults to support them in expressing there natural preferences" - quoted from Introduction to Type, 6th Edition (Isabel Briggs Myers)

Interesting, I will have to mull over this. If I am an introvert, if any of my kids are Extroverts I realize I will need to account for this and let them express themselves as an Extrovert...but very interesting, yes?

Foto Friday: Codi's best friends

I know now why Codi has been quite clingy to me, the poor little thing has not been 100%. No wonder all he wanted to do is lie down and watch TV (The Wiggles + Boohpah)...well he was better today, it has taken longer to get over gastro, with it slightly lingering. Codi is such a great kid, that it is hard to see when he is not 100%, it takes a lot for a sickness to get to him. I am gladly picking up on the signs thank goodness because it doesnt happen very often, and I forget ;) Well, today this afternoon he was happy and not so pale...

It's good that he has his best friends for support - lol

TV tantrums

by rachelcookComment Published at 01:1601:164 comments4 comments305 Visits305 VisitsReport
Initially I thought how lovely it was that Codi "really" likes Boohbah and The Wiggles, but now it has become an obsession! It is a big crying session if the DVD show of The Wiggles or Boohbah is not put on when I have explained "bye bye TV". My only issue is how long in front of the TV watching these shows can I handle? I try and only allow a block of watching TV of an hour, but it is becoming a "CHALLENGE" to not go pass this allocated time ...I have a feeling that since "Dummy/Pacifier" was given up to the Dummy Fairy that his comfort item has been replaced with Humpty Dumpty, Anthony the blue Wiggle, Jumbah from Boohbah (the three go everywhere) and persisting to watch The Wiggles and Boohbah around the clock....try straping Codi into his car seat, or eating dinner with all these things in his hands....oh and a new obsession taking his Bobbie Car with him to BED!!!!!!

Oh well, just another day in the life of Toddlerdom...lots of deep breaths for mom

I must be extra tired with being in my second trimester - lol.

Thankful Thursday

by rachelcookComment Published at 18:3218:323 comments3 comments220 Visits220 VisitsReport
I like this idea from Tracey to pause and to express gratefulness on Thursday.

How more appropriate than to be very thankful for the Minti friends. It is very exciting to see lots of conversation and advice shared. This budding community helps me everyday with my parenting and I feel I have an on tap support of Minti friends whenever I need it. Whats more I feel very thankful that others are able to have a community of peers to tap into too. Parents have so many touching experiences and I am thankful for being able to read them and share too.

It is awesome that I was lucky enough to have two blokes (one my husband, the other Matt) back the idea, build Minti/Vibe from the ground up, as well as being happy to let me be involved were it didn't impede with motherhood!!!

Have a great Thursday!

Can spill the beans, I am pregnant YAY

by rachelcookComment Published at 04:5304:5331 comments31 comments746 Visits746 VisitsReport
OKay, I can share WOO HOO... I am three months pregnant and due 2nd of May 2007, yay!!! What a long three months it has been. The first month I basically rested on the couch, the second month yucky morning sickness starting at 12 noon and easing off around 8pm (of which was a first, I didnt really have morn sickness with Codi that much)...

I am now starting to feel good, I still take a good nap when Codi takes his and I get tired. Overall, feeling very good.

It's funny but seeing baby 2 bouncing around during my First Trimester Screening was like seeing it for the first time and it hit home...we are having another baby!!! I was totally reminded at that moment what a miracle having a baby is. Thank goodness the niggley cloud has been lifted, having miscarried back in Jan.

So Codi's going to have a new baby brother, Taj or sister, Mikayla (Clay is so happy he has the ultrasound print out on his monitors in his office - lol)

So I will be asking and reading a lot on Minti about baby 2 and all that comes with the new pregnancy journey, a newborn in the house and I am sure sibling rivalry!!!

(ps. I don't look as good - lol)

I received this from a friend the other day and sat in silence. I realized it's true, reading this had more meaning to "Dr Phil's" quote, "I believe a mothers work is equivilent to two full time jobs" and with that intro, check out your job description.... Happy mummy

by rachelcookComment Published at 01:0801:082 comments2 comments235 Visits235 VisitsReport
I have been thinking lately, what makes me a "Happy Mummy".... I think it's my smile that lights up when I see Codi enter the room and my eyes opening wide when I see Clay :) I think what also makes a Happy Mummy, is the small things she does for her family, the little thoughtful things that only her family would know she gives to them everyday... I also think a mummy that is happy to go through lots of emotions, but underneath it all, at her core, she is extremely happy...

I wonder what makes you a "Happy Mummy"...

Roomba pet

by rachelcookComment Published at 20:0320:0319 comments19 comments595 Visits595 VisitsReport
We've been trialing the roomba here at home (we bought one too to see what it was like)...Codi loves Roomba, ever since he pressed one of the buttons and made it clean...now I have two gentlemen of the house coaching Roomba around!!!! Fantastic!!!! Codi says "Hi Roomba" with his hands in the air and Clay plays around with it's misson capabilities, hehe!!! A great invention this Roomba, although with Codi's liking for Roomba he is on nearly all day and we are having to do emergency clean outs, when Codi alerts me of Roomba taking a rest, lol, so I show Codi how to clean Roomba and wake him up...which we hear "Wake up Roomba" with Codi patting him... Roomba the Friendly robot :0)
