| Abigail's hiding place - end of May 2006 |
I'm Rachel, very happily married to my best friend, Ohad for just a little over 2 years. They've been a very intense two years :-) When we got married in March 2004, Ohad found himself a step-dad to 3 kids. He took on the task with full force and, as we had agreed earlier, became a very devoted co-parent, something I'd never had before.
At the end of May (just 2-1/2 months into our marriage), my place of work announced that I was leaving. My husband congratulated me and I felt relieved, because it wasn't the best experience for me... but I was suddenly left with no work. Shortly before the end of my month's notice we got the best gift we could have wished for - I was pregnant! Great news, but I was suddenly not very hireable. After the first months of morning sickness when I could barely get out of bed, I wanted to find something to do so that I could make some money. I started a website (in Hebrew) with information and stories on infertility experiences and began importing ovulation and pregnancy tests. It turned out that the stories were a hit, so I decided to make a sister site in English (http://www.fertilitystories.com). The stories started flowing in and the site has currently grown so big that I've just finished the development of a content management system with my talented computer-programmer brother, Ben Michelson. (He did the work, I only told him what I needed.)
Our daughter, Abigail Rebecca was born on March 14th 2005 (her birth story appears here: http://www.fertilitystories.com/abigail.htm). Having married at nearly 35, we didn't want to wait to try to give Abigail a little brother or sister. Ohad left his job to start studying for his doctorate and on the day we were going ...

There are always parents who brag about how much their kids can talk... I never believe them unless I see it for myself, but I finally got one of these kids. (My twins hardly said a word until they were 2; all my kids are being raised bilingual.)
Abigail sits herself down in the stroller (she can say 'stroller', points at the wheel and says 'wheel'), says 'walk' (she wants to go for a walk), 'park' and 'nad-ned' (nadneda is swing in Hebrew & there's a song that uses the word 'nad-ned' to express the up & down motion).
She says 'turtle' when she wants to go to the garden (as if she wants to look for our turtle); 'mil' when she wants milk; 'cup' when she wants to drink, etc. When we start to count, "one" she says 'two, three".
We had started teaching her baby sign language, but she expresses herself so well that we haven't kept up with it.
In the past few weeks she's started saying, "I love you" :-) |

I wrote about it on another blog of mine here - http://www.fertilitystories.com/fertilityblog/ - in addition to being "frosties", my twins were born exactly a year from the date they were created (they spent a few months in the freezer in between).
I can't believe they're turning 10 in just 25 minutes :-) I made them t-shirts for their birthday. Judy wants "Crocs" and Harry... well... I have no idea what he wants, but having just bought him a fancy new bicycle, a helmet, gloves and many other (expensive) accessories, I really don't feel too bad for him... Usually it takes me a while (a few weeks, at least) to get around to making a cake for them. I asked them what special lunch they want & they said, "pasta". Pasta? We eat pasta practically every week... |
