This post is from from my other blog here Ok, I realize this post doesn’t meet any Rookie Mom goals. It’s not cheap, free, or crafty. It doesn’t get you out of the house or help you socialize with friends. It doesn’t liberate your body from baby-holding for a chunk of time so that you can do what you want to do. It [...]

This post is from from my other blog here While you’re still making all that good fresh baby food, hold a food swap with some other mom friends to introduce your kid to new flavors and broaden his palate. Here’s how:
Make a huge double batch of sweet potatoes or winter squash (steam, puree, put in a large tupperware in the fridge)
Your pals, Bettina and [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here We recently “met” Courtney from Babyccino — an excellent blog in which moms in 4 European cities hold an online conversation about life, kids, and style.
She is an American from Seattle living in London with her husband and 2 lively sons, Easton and baby Quin (near the same ages as mine!).
She shares some of her [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here Is that an expression? Well, if button up is… I figured I could use it.
Anyway, when Holden was a few days old, Alec tried to give him is first manicure. This innocent ritual ended with snipping off the end of his little thumb and us putting mittens on him for the next three [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here My stepmom is the awesomest grandma. Or maybe it’s that she’s the awesomest stepmom. She sent us a package in the mail, inside which was a craft project for Julian, but she did all the messy stuff herself and included every single item we’d need to do the project. Sometimes I cannot believe my luck. [...]

This post is from from my other blog here Both of us Rookie Moms have parents who were divorced before we were in pre-school, and both of us want to have long epic marriages that last for 50 or 70 years (long after our diaper-wearing boys are out of the house). In that vein, here are some of our best tips for looking [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here My friend Amanda lives with her husband and son and daughter in Portland, so she’s done this maternity leave thing twice. Once with Jed, and now that he’s in preschool, with baby Willa.
She’s done us the favor of laying out a plan for the week that offers a rainy day option for each day, [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here If you still have that yoga ball around (and you’re not currently using it for ab work), get it out to thrill and delight your baby. We kept ours in Holden’s room for about 22 months — until his new brother was born and the room just got too crowded.
Each morning, he found [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here Marketing Mommy is a blogger in the Chicago area who has two kids born pretty darn close to mine. And we both had a victorious VBAC with #2, and, we are both in marketing, so we are like, totally best friends, even though we’ve never really had a conversation.
She works full time, so pumping is [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here Invest in a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps each day. You’ll be surprised how many steps a mom can take just running around the house, but if you’re going to reach 10,000, you’ll need to take a walk outside for sure. This is good motivation to get some fresh air.
Both Whitney and [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here If you can believe it, this is Julian at not-quite four months. Sort of an odd moment that was captured here, when we propped him against the couch and moved our hands just for the picture to be snapped, as the kid did not actually crawl until 10 months or walk until 14 months. |

This post is from from my other blog here We asked Christie Mellor, author of Three-Martini Family Vacation to suggest an activity for rookie moms. Put the fun back in some of your routine outings by “going hunting” with your baby or preschooler as defined by Christie:
You want to spend a nice morning with your baby, but you need to sneak in [...] |

This post is from from my other blog here Have a look at this video of a mom trying to do advanced yoga. If you have a crawling baby that’s still on the boob, you’ll really appreciate this.

This post is from from my other blog here (Originally posted in January 2007) A little confession from the Rookie Moms. We are both pregnant with #2. For our readers, we think this is great because we’ll be revisiting months 1-12 all over again. For our toddlers, this is great because they’ll become big brothers. For our bodies, well, we do [...] |
