A horrible thing happened today to another mother, I was not there though my sister, my brother and my mother were, thankfully there. Stopped at a set of traffic lights, my family watched mortified. A young mother was crossing a road pushing a pram with her 2 year old son in it. Racing down the road and through a red light came a car, this car hit the mother and the pram, and then hit another car waiting to turn. This horrid driver got out the car and before anyone realised and ran away. The baby and the pram were hurtled into the air in one direction, the mother in the opposite. In a flash my mother and sister where out of the car my sister (training to be a nurse) made sure the mother was ok, with two broken legs, (bones through skin) and bleeding everywhere my sister kept her calm while my mother who recently finished her update of her first aid (luckily) went to the baby, who was screaming. immobilsing both mother and baby, and keeping them calm. My brother called the ambulance, and checked the driver of the other car who was in shock and helped him out. Which I think is a good effort for someone who has no knowledge of first aid. I feel very much for this mother and her baby, a baby who had a large growing lump on his head. This would be one of my worst nightmares and probably many other parents nightmare aswell. I'm just glad that my family was there to assist this mother and her child. I pray that both mother and baby recover, and that driver gets a sentence. not just a loss of licence or fine. Just another reminder really that each day we are here and healthy we are so lucky. |
