Still Overdue Day nine

Comment Published at 23:4823:484 comments4 comments156 Visits156 VisitsReport

Well i was due on 14th June and after being 4 days over with my first son before labour started (six by the time he arrived!) I wasn't expecting to have a suprise 38wk baby but wow this little monster has given his brother a run for his money and beaten his record! I'd had a docs app on wed (40+4) and had been told i was 2cm dilated 40% effaced so had gotten my hopes up on going into labour that evening!!

I woke yesterday 41+1 with period pain and got myself really excited! Cleaned the entire house and took Elliot for a walk in his jogger for an hour up and down the biggest hills in our area! Sat down to lunch at one and bam contractions every ten minutes woo hoo it continued until 7pm that evening and i had a bloody show yay!!

After ringing the hospital my midwife told me it sounded like progress was finally being made and told me to rest up and drink lots of fluids! Murphys law i hung up and absolutely nothing.... not even a niggle after that i was extremely depressed! I had an app again today which confirmed the worst.. no progress has been made at all :( Spencer is still way up high and not sitting anywhere near let alone on my cervix and i havent dilated anymore than i had a week ago.

I've now been booked for a day ten induction ( June24th) and i am so nervous, with my first my hind waters broke so i knew labour was imminent but i failed to dilate and was given oxytocin to bring on stronger contractions. I have never experienced pain like i did after that and although i know labour isnt called labour for nothing i seriously thought i was going to die!

My contractions over lapped and the midwife  had to remove the IV the try help me relax, gas and air did nothing and made me feel nauseus, Pethidine sent me to another planet but still the pain was immense so finally after over a day and a half i was given the news! 'It looks like a Ceaser' I was given the gas and air back whilst a doc was sent for to give me a prep talk (funnily enough the gas and air suddenly worked and felt amazing!) After about an hour i was given an epidural and my goodness.. all the bad press and gossip about those things (i was once one of those narrow minded i will never have an epidural people) IT WAS FANTASTIC, a few hiccups to start with, it worked only on one side which the doc soon had fixed and admittedly was very sore to have adminstered but my goodness i suddenly knew everything was going to be ok and was now concerned about how my hair looked rather than when i was going to drop off the bed!

I managed to pursuade the doc to give me just half an hour to see if anything would happen.. (to now i had only been at two cms and wasnt moving) and he agreed and hey presto within twenty mins of being calm i had dilated to 9cm YAY so with that the doc allowed me to try and deliver Elliot vaginally.

I pushed for about ten mins and was so weak the docsuggested a vacuum, he explained this would need an episiotomy but may help him out and i agreed (Elliot was posterior and had his head turned to one side so was struggling to fit through!) So i was given the Epizzy and i pushed doc pulled and within twenty mins my boy was here and happy! I had 66 stitches.. but the elation by far out weighed any pain!  I used a hair dryer on stitches as suggested and they healed wonderfully with no problems at all and 8 weeks later i wanted another baby to complete our family and keep our children close in age.

Elliot was four months old when we found out we were 4 weeks pregnant and we actually had lots of negative comments from people inc family! But we were over the moon.. and this little monster has kept his family waiting now hehehe but i know just like Elliot he will be toatlly worth every moment, every comment andevery stitch!!!

Re: Still Overdue Day nine

My babies are all close together in age.  Let's see, 5 years, 4 years, 2 years, 1 year and due in August with our 5th, but I know the comments you mean.

It is horrible going over!  All mine to date have been late, and one was actually induced.  As you get closer to your due date, you get so excited and start analyzing every little pain and niggle, but then your due date passes and you are still left waiting.

Let's hope that this one arrives for you soon!!!!  Induction is the worst!  Oh, and the midwives keep telling you it is only the gel when you know it is the real thing!!!!!!!  4 hours after being induced, and my midwife had egg on her face!!!!! Take that you know it all cow! lol.

If you have stairs near you, then use them to help shift him down.  Works better than the hills because one side at a time moves and you squeeze them down better.

Re: Still Overdue Day nine

Sorry you had to go so far overdue, I hated that feeling too and that moment of panic when you remember what you have to go through !!!!!!

Every birth is totally different, I had four myself and they were all completely different, my first was obviously daunting as you don't really know what is going on. my 2nd, they left me till I was 3 weeks overdue and then we almost lost her in delivery as she was so distressed her heart rate almost disappeared, my third the contractions stopped after delivering the head and I got into a panic and the 4th was relatively simple although a minor problem with the cord around his neck.

I also know friends who had a traumatic first delivery then sailed through the others, with very little discomfort, others who had an easy first delivery then more painful second delivery ???????????

Once it starts all I remember is that the fears disappear and once again you just want it over so you can hold your baby

I'll be thinking of you till we hear its all over and you have your little one
