He's Here!

Comment Published at 01:5301:534 comments4 comments29 Visits29 VisitsReport

Samuel David Thomas Willoughby 7lb 12oz on 24/6/08 14.44pm Yay!!!! Finally i have my son in my arms not my tummy! I had the induction as planned, luckily i had already dilated enough to not need gels and The doctor simply broke my waters and put me on and Oxytocin IV, in his words 'we are going to flog you, get this moving' and wow they did!!! After all my praise of epidurals in my last blog, i chose to have one again and it didnt work I was left with the right side of my body reeling in pain and the left almost paralyzed! Then the left side suddenly came back to life and i ended up having a basically 'natural' labour. Luckily i was only in labour four hours this time  and because i was able to feel myself bearing down Samuel only took four pushes!!! I was gobsmacked as i'd expected to go for days!! Even my hubby was astounded he had made the pubs opening hours for 'wetting the babies head' Typical.

I had a few complications, i felt like i couldnt breath at about 9cm and started to hyper ventilate (which my hubby thinks was mothers intuition that Sam was in distress as his cord was wrapped very tightly twice around his neck and he was born blue) Also i had alot of meconium during delivery of which he had swallowed some so when he took his first breath his breathing was a little impaired so they took him off to special care which was heart breaking but he was back with me within ten minutes as he seemed to pick up pretty quickly! Then i heamoragged 750mls (i lost 500 with Elliot) to be precise that was actually worse than my labour i think because i was petrified! I had midwives pumping at my tummy trying to rid of blood and yuckyness and threats of transfusions. I dont think i should of gone so far over, the doctor called in three others to look at Sams placenta which was literally disintergrating it had huge holes and looked terrible.

I just wanted to hold my boy! Daniel (hubby) was amazing and constantly re assuring me and bringing Sam to me so i could take my mind of what was happening, I ended up with a 2nd degree tear which was actually an old episiotomy scar that popped and some grazing but it was totally worth it and although im petrified to have anymore children after my labours Id love to extend my family in the future. I chose not to continue breast feeding this time on day three, grazed nipples a very very sore tummy and pure exhaustion i decided to formula feed to try give Dan and I a little extra sleep (so far it has worked but only during the day) haha but it works better for us anyway. Have to see a paediatrician next week for Sam to have his tongue tie corrected (strangely Elliot had tongue tie too) and then its just me and my boys There really is no love like a mothers i absolutely adore my boys and sometimes feel my eyes fill with tears purely of happyness watching Elliot play and thrive. I may whinge to people about how bad my labours are and how terrible it was going over my due dates but my goodness i would definately do it all over and over!! xx

Re: He's Here!

Congrats!  And induced labours do seem to be quicker, so there is an upside to it.  Sounds like a scary entrance to the world for you little man, scaring the pants of everyone like that, but glad he is fine now.  Yuck losing that much blood.  Hope you are better now.
