The darned Dog!

Comment Published at 09:2809:2810 comments10 comments23 Visits23 VisitsReport

I am so mad, I want to give away the darn dog....We just finished renovating our kitchen and the DOG just scratched and chewed a wall to pieces...took all of 5 freakin minutes....I am G'rrrring!!!

I went and spoke with my husband and said to him if we do not have this under control with the dog destroying our things within the next two week...the dog has to go....I am frustrated because it is always something with this dog...

I want to spend my free time with my family not being upset at the dog all the time....we walk her, play with her, feed her, makes sure she always has water...but she is still into destroying things...I don't want it like this...but what can I do???

I also spoke with my little girl and she doesn't mind letting the dog go to another family if it comes to it...Brandi keeps knocking her down no matter how much patience and training we do with the dog she is just highly strung and too much for our little girl.

I feel like crap because I don't want to keep the dog...I am very sorry for agreeing to a dog now in the first place...I am still willing to give this another chance but that is it....!!!!!

Re: The darned Dog!

Hi honey,

Having a dog with young ones and also while renovating can be a nightmare so please don't feel bad if it doesn't work out. Taking on a young dog is like having another child except this dog child doesn't listen at all and can be far more demanding than you expect . . .   If the dog is causing you undue stress then I can safely say that in order to keep your sanity then you may just have to bite the bullet and say bye bye to the dog . .

If you still want a pet for you and the family then perhaps you could try a cat . . I love dogs but cats are far more easier . . I hope that things work out for you . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: The darned Dog!

Arianna wanted a dog so bad, ever since she could talk (and she was born talking...lol), well when she started asking for a baby sister or brother...we got the dog...lol.  Anyways, the dog is very hyper although we take her for walks up to 3 times a day.....I don't mind all the work that goes into the dog what I don't like is the destruction...we really want to work it out for Arianna's sake...but there will come a point where she either gets it or leaves.  By getting it I mean she understands that she cannot destroy our things...I feel badly for even thinking about giving her to someone else...but if its not working out we have no other choice...

We will think long and hard before another pet...we do have a cat already but he is old and as Arianna says, there is no way to make a cat bark..lol!

Thanks Kellz...

T.

Re: The darned Dog!

Hey I have been there done that....

Before you give the dog away just want to say that I have days like that too...

There is a spray you can buy, and spray it on the things the dog does not like.. Have a look at the pet store, I am sorry but I can't remember what the hell it is called...

It really does smell horrid for both you and dog, but tastes really bad for the dog.. Just make sure when you spray hold your breath and walk away before you breath again, because you might get a horrid taste in your mouth too...

you may need to spray more then once but you keep spraying what you don't want chewed until the dog gets the picture... The can will give you instructions... All things that can't be sprayed just make sure they are up and out of the way... We have a new remote control thanks to the dog eating the old one.. Now hubby actually puts things away instead of leaving them out...

Good luck...

I don't really want to give the dog away but I hate that she keeps destroying things...I will have to go to a pet store very soon and look for a product like you have mentioned...

Thanks,

T.

My good vet told me once that ginger cookies for dogs work a treat in relaxing them/less hyper....never found these 'cookies' but worth a try if source them.....good luck, rue

Re: The darned Dog!

I have never heard of  the ginger cookie thing either, we have to take the dog to the vet in a couple of weeks for her shots and I will ask her about it then.

Thanks Rue,

T.

Re: The darned Dog!

Oh that is terrible!  Blasted dogs! lol.  Give me a cat any day!  And yes, I have had a dog of my own, but she was poisoned.

All I can suggest without more info is to get some citronella oil.  Should be in the barbeque section of your supermarket.  As you have kids, it might be better to mix some with water and have in a water pistol, always close to hand.  Everytime you catch her doing something she shouldn't, or being somewhere she shouldn't, then spray her with it!  Dogs hate the smell of it and will do anything to get away! lol.  It really does work.  So does white vinegar, if you prefer, and that is safer for kids too.

If you would like further advice, keeping in mind I'm no expert when it comes to dogs, minti mail me with the breed, age, diet of dog, training you have done, what sort of lead you use, how long you have had the dog for and any other annoying habits she has.  I might be able to work out some more ways of helping you if I know these things.  Oh, I might not be able to get back to you straight away, finding it hard to be at the computer for long, but I'll do my best to do it in the next two weeks! lol.
