I decided to tackle making my own baby food for my little girls and I must admit it has really made me feel good. The thought of spending so much money on made food for the girls just was too much for me to accept. If I make food for myself why wouldn't I do it for the girls. I found a great book called 'Blender Baby Food' which helped me get started and gave me receipes so I can follow them. I made prunes (out of need- more on that in a second) and green beans I found fresh at the farmers market. Lucky for me I live in a farming community so I'm trying to snatch up all the veggies I can make as much food as I can for the next few months. What I don't use I'm going to freeze so we can all eat it later down the road. My sweet little ones started on solids almost a month ago. I was giving them so very little. We went for their 6 month check up over a week ago and the doc said I needed to bump up the amount and try to get them eating veggies and fruits by the end of 6 months. So after 5 days of rice cereal they were so gosh darn constipated I was very concerned. I tried to call the doc and got no help from them (I won't even talk about my feelings on that). I got my book out and figured prunes would be the first item made. It was so easy and they loved the taste. I gave them only a little for three days. Yesterday they both finally had a BM. Now it seems that is all they have been doing for over 24 hours. Their poor little bums are so sore and red. I've put everything I can on them to help against the diaper rash but it just doesn't seem to help. I'm hoping they will be done with the whole cleaning out of their system and get back to a normal schedule now. Starting solids is a whole new world for our happy little family. It's entertaining. It's fun. It's our next step to growing out of being little babies and into little toddlers. As I write this I'm excited for them and a little sad for me. |
