Getting outside

Comment Published at 05:4205:422 comments2 comments19 Visits19 VisitsReport

Okay, I'm tired of having Madonna staring back at me when I take a look at my blog, so I guess I'll post something else and bump her further down the page.

After spending most of the day inside doing nothing of interest yesterday, Emily finally convinced me it would be a good idea to go outside. It's starting to get hot here, but this was at about 4 o' clock, so past the worst part of the day. Once outside she announced we all needed to get some exercise! and proceeded to go through a course of things along those lines.

Stage one was riding her bike for about two minutes. Stage two was baseball. They cracked me up on that one. I put frisbees down as bases and Emily gets that she needs to touch each one with her foot, and we've played on the Wii so she knows that if I'm heading for her with the ball she should stop on the first frisbee. Thiago, on the other hand, just likes to run in a circle and could care less if his foot is touching anything other than grass. He loves to knock the tee over with the ball when he's at bat, too. Anyway, that went on for about two minutes, then there was... um, I don't remember. Eventually we made it to stage 5 and I suggested we go out back (it's flatter there) and try soccer. They were agreeable, so we headed out there.

I used frisbees again to mark the goals and told them it was them against me. Well, Thiago wanted to wander off and check out all the jungley growth that the yard backs up to, and Emily didn't get what I was telling her to do. She kicks okay, but this bit about trying to score a goal was new to her. I finally let her score one and kinda stepped out of the way to let her past with the ball so she'd get the idea. It went a little better after that. Then, I wanted to try and get her to take the ball from me, so I started kicking toward my goal and telling her to try and take it. She didn't really get it and I scored a goal. She was okay with that; we were tied after all–I wasn't winning yet. At this point Thiago had finally rejoined us and I tried to get him to help. Emily had the ball and I was trying to take it. I called him over to help her out and what did he do? He showed that he has more American blood in him than Brazilian. He ran over and tackled the ball–grabbed it with his hands to stop it and then lay down on it. We didn't have much luck getting him off, and I think Emily had decided her two minutes at stage 5 was over anyway. Shortly thereafter, the call of a pile of dirt in the corner of the yard was too strong to resist, and they abandoned me to go get dirty. The day o' exercise was over.

Recounting this story makes me realize I probly need to go clean the bathtub.

Re: Getting outside

Exhausted you?! Was my writing that bad?

It was fun, and it's about the only exercise I get these days. I'm never gonna make it back into those pre-pregnancy jeans that have been hanging in the closet for four years now!

Re: Getting outside

Your efforts to explain it all exhausted me.  Can't wait to do the same with my 1 and 3 year old.  lol
