I wish I'd found this before Mother's Day!

Comment Published at 12:1112:118 comments8 comments13 Visits13 VisitsReport

As I mentioned in my last (incredibly intriguing) blog, my mom's stuff has made it to our house. One of the things sitting in the middle of the living room area is her "treasure box." This is a box she's had since my brother and sister and I were little where she puts things she wants to remember things we kids did. Mostly it's school papers and awards and stuff, but there are some drawings and things like that, too. Well, I was looking through it and I came across a card I made for her for Mother's Day when I was a kid and it cracked me up. I especially like the P.S.

Dear Mom,

I'm going to wait on you today. Tammy may fix dinner I will help. Mom you are the best mom I ever had. Happy mothers day!

P.S.  I also like dad.

ROFL! That is so sweet!

I've got a little treasure chest for things like that too. I wonder what will end up in there by the time I have grandkids.

Grandkids! I'm hoping that's still a ways off for me! I imagine by that time it'll be a box full of CDs (music and CD-Roms) and DVDs.  Pretty soon mother's day cards will probly be power point presentations!

Re: I wish I'd found this before Mother's Day!

ive done the same and my children who are now 25 and 27 have written school journals. when nintendo first came out and the boys were young we used to (including hubby and i ) play super mario brothers. my son has recorded our scores in his school journal!!!  im last . i pulled this out to read a couple of years ago and i was amazed that he had even recorded all four scores!!!

so his teacher got to know how crap at the game i was!!!

ive kept all their hand made mothers day cards and christmas things like "father christmas" with his "cotton wool "' beard

in the journal was all about our holiday house and our adevntures. going horse riding how he fell off the horse how tempremental his horse was. he has even recorded the names of the horses and who had which horse!

he talked about the day we bought the trampoline. the fun days they had with the cousins during summer holidays

our family trip to greece and lots more. minute details

i have always been nolstalgic. i have even bought a book in my younger years and i still have it on a book called nostalgia mostly based on melbourne products. but some are found world wide like old ads about  lux.

arent mothers wonderful?

cheers annie

That's funny about the scores in the school journal!

In some ways I think these kinds of things are even more meaningful that old photos for helping remember the past. Well, and it helps me catch a glimpse of what my siblings are like when I look at their things. My sister was something of a poet as a kid. And I wouldn't be surprised if she still is. But I wouldn't have really known that without looking at stuff she wrote as a kid!

ROLF that made me laugh! I have a box for each kid filled with mother's day cards and school stuff. Also pictures they drew and stories they wrote. We do pull them out from time to time and laugh together! They'll be great to pull out for their 21st!

Heck, I'm 33 and I still get a kick out of looking at this stuff! It helps remind me I was a kid once and I didn't always have perfect grammar either. Among other things...

That is so cute! I love the little things kids write they are so innocent. I sometimes find old work that the kids have written in primary school and it makes me laugh. Especially there school journals. It is cool to see it from there perspective too.

Re: I wish I'd found this before Mother's Day!

Oh yeah, I've definitely followed this tradition of my mom's! I keep most of my daughter's stuff from school and then sift through it at the end of the year and keep the more creative stuff. She writes us so many letters at home telling us she loves us though, I can't keep all of them! There is a funny one the other day that was a list of things I needed to do while I was babysitting her bear for her. It was funny cuz she's only 5, and the spelling she came up with was quite... unique! And one of the things on the list was to buy her bear M&Ms!
