Easter eggs and tooth decay

by supertoothComment Published at 02:2802:280 comments0 comments52 Visits52 VisitsReport

Kerri Anne's email today promoted sterile toothbrushes. They can be a problem but not as much as tooth decay, the most common and expensive food related disease.

Easter is comming and consumption of easter egg confection will cause multiple episodes of acid demineralised tooth.

Eating confection between meals increases episodes of demineralisation, so eat confection with meals.

Chewing nuts before eating helps prevent food being trapped and carbohydrate chaged to acid while eating.

Chewing nuts after eating helps saliva displace trapped food, neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.

Chewing fibre like celery string after eating
helps saliva disolve carbohydrate like sugar, neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.

Over 80% of cavities occur inside grooves on chewing surfaces where the brush, saliva and fluoride cannot reach. The smalest amount of trapped food causes the most cavities.
