Thank goodness for Networks

Big thank you's to the fantastic responces from last blog your encouragment, advise and congrat's means alot to us.

During last week I attended a two day workshop called Positive Partners held by Ballarat Autism network it was all about ASD children at school, public and private it was very imformative and great to attend great to meet other parents and network providers it is travelling around victoria and if any one has the oppertunity to attend I would recomend it because it's the only place I've beeen able to obtain information in regards to maximising my daughters education it was free to attend.

Schools can also register teachers and Aides to attend worshops too separate to parents workshop,I'm greatly dissappointed the principle at Drew's school did'nt register any teachers or Aides to attend. I will be expressing my dissapointment with him next SSG meeting. Lucky the topic of approaching Principle's with any grievances was covered, along with bullying, siblings, transitions, encouraging positive behaviours, networking and more,

Thank Goodness for these networks and people who work in them it's such a brighter journey to travel on when theres accessable information passed on and meeting others who are also travelling the same road if not very similar.

Drew was awarded student of the week award at school last friday, here I'd been wondering if she'd ever recieve such an award if having autism would disadvantage her from it  as from experience she often gets left out of such things I'm glade she was'nt I'm so pleased with her for making such an effort and I know it's hard for her to adjust to change constantly and Autism is so isolating but she continues to make friends what a brave little girl.

Always a proud Mum

those breaks!

I'm so sorry  I've been so flat out I have'nt had or been able to have access to the net  but I will do my best to check in at least every friday if not every second friday.Drew has returned back to school after having easter school break and I did expect some behaviour re-adjusting due to the interuption of her routine we've had some tantrums and some tears but other than that she is doing well and happy to be back at school. Most parents lookforward to their children going back to school but honestly I dont, I really dread it having that break really disrupts my darlings world. Ada has also returned to 3 yr old kindy and is loving it however she dose'nt attend till the end of the week and was heartbroken her big sister went of to school without her to compensate I put her in occasional care for 2 hrs which made her very happy (the little social lite) It was also nice to get a little break myself even though it felt odd not having eigther child by my side. Well untill next friday take care. catch.

Last week Drew's school  had swimming comps with 3 other rural primary schools previously Drew & her fellow students had been taking swimming lessons for the past two weeks. Now my darling autistic Princess is very confident in water - if she could wish to be anything I'm sure it would be a mermaid so she could playfully stay in the water imersed in her own world always. Well this little mermaid blew me away 2 first place ribbons!!!!WOW!

I could'nt help thinking when she'd came first and they'd told her to come out of the water the look on her face accompanied with the thought;

'YOUR KIDDING I JUST GOT IN HERE & NOW YOU WANT ME TO GET OUT!!"

2 out of 4 races Drew participated and after her 2nd race she said sweetly said 'she'd had enough now thank you.' and fair enough says this proud mom.

Well done Drew XOXOXO

A new year with new challenges

Comment Published at 18:3518:354 comments4 comments22 Visits22 VisitsReport

Phew it's a hot one today  43+ . Well Drew started Prep last monday and every thing is going well for her she likes her new teacher and is doing so well in the swimming program at school (like a fish in water I am so very proud of her   .) The Education Department still has'nt come through with funding for an Intergration aid which I feel is disappointing. However I am satisfied that Drew's Primary school has her best interests at heart I also found it comforting to meet other mom's with speacial needs children in prep & other grades at Drews new school and that they too were as anxious about their childrens first day as I was, actrully in fact it was worse for the parents than the children starting school and not forgetten their younger siblings who were lost without them during the week.

On monday after returning home from leaving my autistic princess in the hands of her new school/teachers I tried to keep busy so I would'nt get lost in anxiety and assure Ada, Drew would be back that afternoon. Just after lunch a lady knocked on the door with court papers from my mother who'd filed for access of my daughters  Now being someone who grew up without Grandparents -  thanks to my mother, I'd always believed it was important for children to have granparents in their lives,However my mother verbally and physically assulted me in a visous manners infront of my daughters even wene I 'd begged her not to and pleaded for her to let go! (of my hair) and get off me you're upsetting them! (Drew 5 and Ada 3) who were screaming at the time in tears I no longer feel my children are safe in her prescence. I could'nt believe the things she was demanding for eg:custody of the children "every weekend" from fri 7:00pm to Sun 3:30pm ,school/kindy newsletters and medical reports just to name a few then upon reading her avifdavid her lies   accussing me of being a bad parent!!!!! Sneaking into my daughters kindy after I informed the kindy of what had happened and yet I have to find that out through an avifdavid not the Kindy.Using my daughters Autism!!  Back in Aug 09 when I met up with her for lunch and informed my mother the diagnoses (in tears) she responded "Oh they've (physchologist & occupational therapist's ) only spent half the morning with Her (Drew) they don't know her !!!She's not Autistic!!!

And yet since ceasing contact with my mother in the past 6mths my children and I have never been better.

My darlings first day of school was tainted with my mothers twisted controlling sickness.

Heartbroken.

New Year

Comment Published at 05:1105:114 comments4 comments14 Visits14 VisitsReport

A big warm hello to everyone on minti  hoping you all had a awesome christmas/festive season and the big jolly red man delivered the goodies on your wish list.

My christmas was bitter-sweet  my children had a ball regardless of the absence of my small immediant family my closest sibling being interstate and my mother not being included due to her verbal & physical abusive behavour towards me some months ago infront of my children then seeking legal action in regards to access to my children a black cloud hanging over me whilst I go into the new year, but I look at the leaps of improvement in my beautiful children and can only think whats best for them and believe I am doing the right thing by them.

Well I better boot I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who has greeted me into minti I wish all the best and safe travels over the New Year Peace & .

Sincerly Suzii xo
