Me and My Family

Carden at 6 weeks.
Carden at 6 weeks.

Hello my name is Tania. I am a New Zealander married to an English man named Daniel and living in Bahrain (just off the coast of Saudi Arabia if your geography is as bad as mine). We're both young to be out here in the Middle East - most people our age have grown up here with their parents.

I am a working mum, I waited until Bryn was 2 because I didn't like the thought of working with a little one - but with Carden went back when he was 6 weeks.  We have a nanny who looks after the boys while I'm at work - she's great.  My job is flexible and works well for me - but doesn't leave me with much time to myself! I enjoy working though and find that I appreciate the boys more and enjoy them because I'm not fed up with them all the time! Most of the time I'm on the Minti website using my BlackBerry while breastfeeding my baby (fully breastfed apart from one bottle of breastmilk per day), so I often have problems leaving comments (and sometimes make the same comment twice hehe).

I don't have the time to go to mums and babies/toddlers groups so this is my subsitute - most of my friends are either stay at home mums,a lot older than me, or working women with no kids so I guess I'm hoping to come across like minded people too :)

I was just about to go to bed last night when the kitten came wandering through the front door meowing. Bryn is back to terrorising it :) the dog also seems happy - they are best mates and chase each other around the house all day.

bad news and good news today

I have lost my kitten! So gutted, have absolutely no idea where he has gone. He was a stray that I found in our garden and he's so sweet, was tamed and toilet trained in a few days! We've had him for about 6 weeks and in that time he has barely left the house (kinda clingy) so I know he wouldn't have just wandered off. There is no blood in my driveway (or in my neighbours) so I don't think he's been run over. Its very strange indeed. Bryn my 3 year old son is gutted! He was finally starting to return to his old self since his Nana went home (she came to stay for two weeks). He loves her to bits and is missing her dreadfully, but has been incredibly naughty since she left. I've just had to remain consistent with the boundaries and punishments, given him loads of praise and a few extra treats when he has a good day (chocolate milk is his fav). Its good timing for him to settle down as my new job in real estate is picking up. I just got a deal today (with my old company) as they are relocating the group head office so I will be trying to find homes for 100 of them over the next few months. They won't be using me exclusively (of course) but I spoke with the group hr advisor today and she is setting up appointments with me to take staff out. They will contact me first so that is good enough for me. If it goes well then I should get them just through positive word of mouth (and the fact that they have a stack of my business cards hehe). The fee I will get for putting just one person in a rented home of low cost is around US$1000 so to get even a couple of these people as clients will be great. I love the middle east! :)

My new career

Comment Published at 12:1812:186 comments6 comments39 Visits39 VisitsReport
Ok I'm going to give this blog thing a go (as if anyone will read it!) I started my new job in real estate today :) after resigning from my work as a key account manager in a multi-national company (was getting bored and sick of the pressure) I was planning on staying home with the boys. Anyway as soon as people found out I was leaving I started getting offers which was a nice ego boost! :) I don't ned to work because we just moved to a cheaper house and hubby got a promotion so no drop in our income. But after a couple of weeks I was already getting bored sitting at home with the kids and the housemaid. I had to decide between sales manager of a sister company to the one I have just left and a position in real estate where I could work as much or as little as I liked. I found out that there is a LOT of money to be made out here in real estate, so have decided to give it a try. I'm working in the area that I live so that I can see my boys in between taking clients out. Its going to be a bit strange, as its not what I'm used to (have no idea what to wear for starters as my work clothes consist of loads of suits). My new boss is a woman (after I swore I would never work for a woman again) but she seems really nice and supportive. She's is more of a nervous type so won't be a cow like some I've had the misfortune of working for in the past! Wish me luck....
